Broncos Roster, Signings and Rumours Discussion 2026

he won't leave his daughter.

As for Haas, his daughter is fast approaching school age and his two youngest brother are in school, still under his care, with their mum in prison here - if he leaves, he's going on his own and I just don't see it.... I could be wrong, but I think it would be highly unlikely if we take care of him. Payne is also the kind of bloke the club would keep around after his career. He is a ready made role model for young blokes coming through, particularly from troubled backgrounds and making something of yourself.

That and R360 could be here today, gone tomorrow. The whole concept is based on them being able to make bank off it, as Payne is under contract for their first season, if things go sideways, there may not be a second season anyway. The countries they are trying to market to are not even Rugby countries, it's very likely to be a gamble at best that he even gets what he's promised money wise. International Rugby is off the table at least for the Wallabies.

If he locks in at the Broncos, he'd be taken care of for the rest of his playing career and then some.

Any players who join R360 have been told they can base themselves wherever they like. Its going to be very attractive from that point of view. I cant see how it will work, but thats whats they are saying.

On top of that, money isnt going to be an issue. Being backed by the Saudi public Investment fund means even if it fails contracts will be paid out. I dont think its much of a gamble for any player who signs up with them from a financial point of view, it will be more a gamble from a sporting point of view. The money on offer for certain players is going to be ridiculous. Look at how much the Saudi pro league is paying some very ordinary footballers.

I think the Club are well and truly going to be considering this. If he's hell bent on going around again and this is his final year I wouldn't be surprised to see a few changes from the club -

- A co-captain (patty)
- Black starting to make the extended squad to travel with the playing group etc. (or even on the bench)
-Reece walsh doing all of the goal kicking
-Hunt, Mam, Walters all doing reps at halfback in the pre-season

Reyno has earnt the right to pick when he finishes his career. I can unequivocally say we don't win a premiership without him, despite his performance not being the best on GF day. Next year will be his transition to retirement year and its up to the club to start handing over his duties!

Walters has an ACL injury ... He'll be doing SFA during the preseason.

Hell, he won't be back before Origin at the earliest

It's not Saudi backed as yet.

Original reporting months ago suggested it may be Saudi backed, but that was all speculation, because they wanted to compare it to LIV.

The below from hours ago specifically indicates that the Saudi fund isnt involved.

If it's coming from European and US private funds, then it wont last... private US funding want returns on their investments, and it's hard to see how that happens with what's coming out at the moment.

If someone was to offer me almost $5 million dollars, I would be there in a heartbeat 😂 So this will not surprise me if he does leave and I will not hold it against him whatsoever!!Footy careers are short compared to the rest of their lives when they retire so why not make as much as you can. He’s been an amazing champion for our club and life outside of footy is more important, he has a family to take care of so I will not blame him for taking the $$$$.

I actually would prefer he goes to this then another rugby league club lol

That’s actually pretty huge banning them from representing their country. That means none of them can play the Rugby World Cup or the Olympics. So that’ll be very interesting. I guess if some players just want to join for a year or two, make their $$$ then leave they can do that. But you would think some of the players still want to play for their country. It’s going to get real interesting.

I’m shocked Papenhuyzen already signed some sort of contract with them. Crazy times

I think there were reports that players had to sign letters of intent or something like that... basically saying that if the comp gets funding then they'd be interested in joining.

I think that was needed for them to get their first round of funding, they needed like 200 professional players to sign by September, but it wasn't really all that binding

Has Paps signed something else since then?

Apparently this was his last year and he will leave Storm early! He has signed some sort of contract and needs to do a medical for them prior to Christmas.

The official contract starts next July but they aren’t allowed to be signed to an NRL club if it conflicts with theirs. If any player backflips they will have legal action against them by R360.

Are you sure it’s Saudi backed? Recent reporting suggests it isn’t and that narrative was just out there by lazy journalists. Also they will have to live in Dubai or similar for half a year or something like that to get it tax free which is what brings it up to insane money.

There comes a time when you have enough money. I know a lot of people find it hard to think that way, but that's because they are earning $80k or $120k or whatever. At 80 you are probably struggling a bit these days, at 120 or so you can live reasonably comfy but still who wouldn't want more?

But when you are earning $1m+ a year, you actually don't need more. There's bugger all you can do to make your life significantly better with $$$ beyond that. What makes life better isn't $$$ by this point, it's achieving your goals, and for an athlete that means winning. It's being with your family, and the people you love.

Sportspeople on insane money (such as Formula 1 drivers etc.) have been quoted as saying they push for the $$$ only because they want to have the prestige of being the highest paid person in their sport. The money itself is meaningless, past a certain point.

Does Payne want to earn $1m+ a year, live a very comfortable life, be with the people he loves, and compete for premiership glory? Or does he want to pocket the $$$ that won't really amount to anything anyway?

Money can't buy what he experienced last Sunday.

Of course, this applies to everyone, not just Payne, just using him as an example.

Oh boy. Alarm sirens should be ringing. Walsh now targeted by r360

So are they signing any union players for this supposed union comp??

Signing league players from a comp on the east coast of Australia probably doesnt move the needle for the European union audience that they're actually trying to engage with... probably even reduces it because they would hate union to be compared with league.

If those players go to R360 I'm not interested in tuning in to watch it... so I dont really know which market theyre going for.

Players will get rich though... well maybe they will if they actually get paid

Due diligence has to be done in regards to the R360 competition but if it is all legit. you'd be pretty nuts not to take the money. Obviously it comes down to your family situation and what you value but the money is massive and has to be considered. If it was my son getting the offers I'd be going through thte pros and cons of it all for sure.

It will fall over before it gets up or if it does get up, no one will care and players will be left out to dry when they don’t get paid.

Apparently 15 nz rugby players signed but doesn't make news here. Down side of winning a comp is haas and walsh may feel like they have done their duty to the club and now want a pay day
Walsh is Apparently their number 1 target.
