It ain't 10 Roosters games then. Might as well claim he was eligible for a random off-season open amateur tournament so he's served his time and can be back in round 1.

So to date his punishment has been a tax deductible fine (because it's to a charity), unpaid games (which means it can come off the cap) and a 10 game suspension reduced down to 5.

Dunno , but sending TXT messages to dealers is very dumb .
A phone call needs to be monitored and needs a warrant to tap the phone .
TXT is there forever after for anyone with the means , to read .

Badel reporting that the NRL are considering moving to a 19 round season, no byes and state of origin would become a stand alone series. although it sounds like it wouldn't come in until we have a 20 team comp (possible as early as 2030)
Under the plan:
• State of Origin could become a stand-alone series following repeated calls for the NRL premiership to be suspended during the code’s $100 million showpiece;
• The international calendar will be expanded with the NRL keen to capitalise on a Test match boom after the success of the recently-completed Ashes and Pacific Championships;
• Byes will be scrapped and the regular-season shortened to enable more scheduling flexibility under a 20-team league; and
• The NRL is mulling over a conference system - successfully used in American sports - to maximise rivalry matches, gates and revenue for clubs.
Wayne Bennett is quoted as thinking this won't happen because of money (tv rights deal).
Bennett said:
“I don’t care how many rounds we play, but it’s about the money,” Bennett told this masthead.
“Players won’t accept being paid less and clubs won’t want to get less with NRL grants and if we play less games.
“If you go from 27 rounds to 19 rounds, it’s a pretty fair reduction.
“If the broadcasters are happy to pay the same amount of money, fair enough, but I’m not sure if it will really happen.
“Less games certainly means players aren’t as tired at the end of the season, but they tend to recover pretty well now.
“It will be a decision made by the clubs and the RLPA because at the end of the day it (reducing rounds) could have an impact on the amount of money they get paid now and what that means for the salary cap down the track.”

You could make it work pretty easily. Yes you might not have exactly the same amount of games but you’d have a bucket load more high stakes ones. Do a 19 round season plus finals and then origin and Pac Champs
Then a world league with Aus, Eng, NZ, Samoa, Tonga, PNG, Fiji and France.

So Vlandiddlyando FINALLY comes up with a good idea - 20 teams, 19 rounds, standalone Origin - meaning for the first time in living memory we have a fair comp with every team playing each other once, and nobody impacted by Origin.
But wait, no let's also move to conference system so it's not fair after all. Let me guess, Conference 1 all the Sydney teams, Conference 2 everyone else. So all the teams in Sydney Conference can walk to their games, and Conf 2 teams are flying all over the country and beyond.
Is there a bigger brainless moron in Australia? I haven't found one yet.

So with games dropping from 27 to 19, will the players also accept the logical 30% reduction in the salary cap and their pay packet?
I'm not against the idea of a reduction in games, but the conference system can go **** itself if it's geographically-based and not performance-based. Otherwise the draw should be everyone plays each other once, full stop. No bleating about how hard or easy the draw is for whichever teams. No advantage for any team.

The idiots in Sydney think a conference would just be Sydney vs the rest... I reckon they could name that conference NSWRL... maybe they could also bring Newtown and Norths back if they need more numbers.
Funny thing is that because they already have 9 Sydney teams one of Raiders or Newcastle would be a casualty to the NSWRL comp and pushed into the pleb travelling nomads comp.
I'm sure good old Donny boy would be happy to jump on a plane every second week to fly off to PNG, Brisbane, Townsville, New Zealand, Melbourne, etc.
Unless he thinks his pleb raiders can out match the golden boys at Newcastle with Joey and Matty on both sides of the lead broadcasters.

A 20 team comp is not as bad as it looks from a broadcast revenue point of view. (As long as we don't go to a conference system which would be a bad move.)
Currently 27rds X 8 games/rd = 204 games*/reg season + 9 finals games
*There weren't 216 games because there were not 8 games/rd during the origin series.
With a 20 team comp it could look like:
19rds X 10 games/rd = 190 games/reg season (14 less reg season games)
Assuming a 10 team finals system there would be 13 finals games (4 more finals games)
So there would be 14 less reg season games but 4 more finals games with 20 team comp.
That is a difference of only 10 games if a finals game is considered the same as a regular season game which clearly they aren't. They are definitely worth more.
Also If Origin is a standalone series then the integrity of the reg season is maintained as clubs don't lose players who have to be stood down for games prior to origin or have to either back up or be rested after origin games.
The current overall effect of Origin on the comp is hard to gauge but it is definitely there to some degree.
The number of games directly affected will vary but would be in the order of 20 - 30 over the 3 game series. Also some clubs would only have 1 or 2 origin players so the effect on them is less than clubs who have heavier representation.
This would be heavily debated but on the face of it I would think there should only be about a 5% reduction in broadcast revenue. Some or all of this discount may be able to be made up with a substantial international representative series in October and November.
The bottom line is the NRL should be able to argue that broadcast rights with a 20 team comp should be line ball compared to a 17 team comp.

The only positive to having more teams is we can move to a draw where everyone plays each other once.
Right now we're in that spot where we have a lot of teams and a lot of games but not enough games to make it fair where everyone plays everyone else the same amount of times. There will always be a team like the Raiders this year who get an armchair draw and if they're any good at all, they will be making the top four.
