OFFICIAL Payne Haas to depart Broncos at the end of 2026

If it was purely money, surely the Bears could have offered him more? The Roosters? There are a bunch of clubs with more cash to throw around than Souths.

This aint about money.
He seems like a super gullible dude and his manager never came across as the sharpest tool in the shed.
He almost left with Sonny Bill in his ear. Not surprised he folded under the combined influence of Fatrell, Bennett and David Tayl....Fifita.
 
I always thought he'd end up leaving, I just didn't think it would be for another NRL club - especially after winning the premiership last year.

He always had my blessing to leave, but moving to another NRL club leaves a bit of a sour taste in my mouth if I'm honest.

I think he'll end up regretting it.
 
Keen to see what other news drops after this. Once one domino falls other usually follow..

This. It's so ****ing weird. Like just let the circus of journo leaks and rumours play out as usual.

The Rabbitohs releasing a statement kind of makes sense for them. They wanted to gloat, and their supporters want something good. But for us, it's really weird. Almost reads like 'don't ****ing talk to us, we have work to do', or something to that effect.

The next few days are going to be a circus anyway. Part of me senses a backflip while he's with team mates 24/7.

Both clubs hands were forced after Wayne blabbed to Badel I imagine.
 
What I find odd is the Courier Mail reporting that Latrell Mitchell and David's Fafita have heavily influenced his decision. This seems bizarre as David has only recently joined the Rabbits and hasn't done a full season with them yet. Outwardly, Payne appears closer with members of the current Broncos squad, especially Patty, who he refers to as his brother.

As such, I'm going to assume that the move is purely financial as most of his family is here in SEQ. Perhaps the third party agreements were too good to refuse?

I can't imagine that the Broncos will be overly happy with the timing of this given that there season launch is tomorrow and this wil be all anyone wants to talk about.

I don't begrudge him going. He stuck with us when we were down and committed to staying until we got the premiership.
 
I'm very comfortable with the clubs decision to not pay overs.
I'm not dirty on him at all. We got our pound of flesh. He's earned the right to ask for big $$ .
We move on and trust the club to adjust.
Lindsay Smith and maybe Siua Wong are worth a look.

But doesn't this happen almost every contract which triggers the journo chaos, and then the clubs formally announce it post cooling off period?

Way more composed than me mate, im cursing his existence right now. Dude could have gone down as one of the greatest Broncos to play the game, one of the most incredible one club legends of all time.
But nah, wants to join Fatrell and Fifita.

Yea its more the initial emotional response, i wont care too much this time tomorrow. Already seeing a fistfull of benefits from this after reading some of these posts in here.
Huge war chest with Haas Hunt and Reyno off the books, could literally afford any two top tier players on that gold.

The media is hilarious though, Woodsy already calling Souths premiership favorites for 2027.
 
I get people being upset, he's a once in a generation talent, but you have to look at this one pragmatically.

- He's got his ring. For most players that is enough. He won't leave believing the job is half done.

- Haas has unique off field circumstances that makes chasing the $$ more appealing than normal.

- He's from NSW, he is just going home really

- NO chance Souffs snagged him on the same offer as us. He is getting a serious payday from somewhere. Probably TPAs.

- As good as he is, he is still just a front rower. We will find someone to replace him.

With all that finally out of the way, we can go about planning our future. We still have Walsh, Mam and Pezet to secure long term. Patty Carrigan is the undisputed leader of the forwards now. He is another one to be serious over.
