So what was the point of naming Reynolds?
I feel for Adam. The tide has turned against him.

Fans seem unanimously relieved he's out. They haven't turned on him for being useless and lazy like say Boyd, Glenn or Milford - despite what CONEHEAD says - but I think the consensus now is that we'd be lucky to get a complete game out of him let alone a premiership. Not as sad as Alfie's decline, but along those lines.

I thought he was pretty decent in the first twenty against the Eels, but he just doesn't have the legs anymore. I've also never been convinced by his captaincy, but maybe it looks different behind the scenes.

If we win against the Storm without him, that might be the bell for last drinks.

And unfortunately for Reynolds, if you can’t long kick any longer, you’ve got no future in this stupid form of league.

It was noticeable last week, we were pinning Parra in their half and then Moses or Pezet launched the ball 60+ on their boots getting their teams out of trouble. Reynolds on the other hand was struggling to kick 30.

This is pretty much it exactly.

He's just not up to an 80 minute standard any more.

You can see the bloke is leaving nothing out there - it's definitely not a question of effort like with Boyd... He's trying, he's just worn down to a nub, injury has a cost and it's come due. His calves and hammys are shot which constrains his running and long kicking. He's getting found out defensively late in each half because he's out on his feet and his sixth tackle options when he's fatigued particularly are getting worse.

35 is basically a grandpa in NRL terms and he's arrived. He and Ben are both looking their age now vs 20 somethings who just are fitter, stronger and hungrier. Few players get to 35/36 in the NRL, the record is Gallen at 38 and he was WELL past it.

What age did Smith get to? Cliff Lyons?

Reynolds had his best period this year in the first quarter of that Eels game.

I was keeping an eye on him off the ball though and he looked very hindered. Not limping, just looked like he was running on sand.

The guy should always be considered a club legend, he dragged the team out of the depths of hell and saw it through to a prem. Put him on our Mount Rushmore. His legs are gone though.

I get the sense he’s trying to hang on to go after Cam’s record

I just looked at that too. He is no chance of breaking it.
To make up 250 points is effectively averaging 5 x goals per game for the rest of the season. That number only climbs with each injury or absence.

He has been a great leader for the club and turned a spoon into a prem. Has his swansong fairytale and chose to play another year too long like Thurston did.

Hopefully we can get a medical retirement and can bring in Barnett mid season with no cap damage.

I doubt he would get there. And in the process, might as well become a bottleneck to our progress this season. Simply put, he no longer can deliver a 80min performance week-in, week-out.

I do not know how, but I would love to see Duffy eased into 17 to get taste of grade footy again and be available to slot straight in if duty calls.

We could have had Pezet this year if Reynolds just did the only thing that made any sense and went out on a high.
I doubt that as we’ve signed Duffy way before our premiership as a potential 7. After the premiership, Adam intended to play on. So, we’re sorted and perhaps spoilt with choices at 7(Adam/BHunt/Duffy) right after our premiership in Oct.

At the cheat ****s, J.Hughes extended his contract post their defeat late Oct and that automatically activated a clause in Pezet’s contract that he would be free to leave them & he did by early Nov. There could’ve been multiple things happened in the background that resulted him at Para this year. As peculiar & legal as it may look, it could pave the way for many more such arrangements going forward.

He should have retired on top every man and his dog would see this coming.

Boooooo! Stop using logical and reasoning to defend him. Or we'll collectively turn on you too.

😀 who am I defending here? Is it Adam? If you reckon, I do not. I haven’t seen proper game management/controlling/good kicking from him for a long time.

From memory, the last time I saw some decent game management & kicking from him was when we played the Dogs at Suncorp in the wet weather last year. Beyond that, he just stayed on the field to make numbers for mine. After that, the only contribution from him is during our prelim final against Riff where he took over the try conversion from Walsh to give us the lead. That’s it.
With his experience, you would expect great things from him but he’s not capable of anymore. No game management at all. Sadly, age and injuries have truly caught up to him and hindering his onfield performance. Like most here, I wish he’s retired in October last year.
