OFFICIAL Broncos grant Ben Te Kura leave to pursue NFL career at six-week camp

Well it’s a shame, had high hopes for him but yeah, Vlandal ball is going to see more and more big guys like that be forced out because it’s too fast.

I think we’re seeing the death of the front rower right before our eyes. Every team will just pack themselves full of second rowers because middles can’t keep up.

It’s such a shame as middle forward battles are part of the fabric of rugby league. I so wish Super League won.

We're seeing the death of the front rower that doesn't have the work ethic required to survive in this game.

This is what Te Kura said:

“Some opportunities only come once in your life,” Te Kura said.

“I do enjoy watching NFL and feel the game suits my natural attributes.

“I like the Eagles. I was actually a fan of them before they even won the Super Bowl.

“It’s cool what Mailata has done. It’s pretty unbelievable, but the fact he did it from rugby league opens up a pathway for people from Australia and gives you that belief that you can do it.

“I’m certainly happy at the Broncos and I always wanted to prove myself within the NRL, but with the rule changes making the game even faster, I feel the NFL is where my future lies.

“Plus you have to do what’s best for yourself and your family ... I feel this is the path for me.”

Fair enough if he can get his head around the game no reason he can’t succeed

I saw in that article that he's been bulking up and is currently 130kg, but during the camp they ideally want him to be 140kg.

If the camp finishes and he gets nothing from the NFL then he won't be able to play NRL at that size... so he's basically done for the season by the looks of it

He could definitely switch to union

He could definitely switch to union
Did he play it in his juniors?

He'd be a back rower / number 8 in union, but that requires him to be in scrums and lineouts... not something that he can just flick a switch and become elite at.

Te Kura’s current Broncos salary is around $350,000 but if he cracks the NFL, their minimum rookie wage is $US885,000 ($1.2m) - making him an instant millionaire.

I can't believe he's on $350k. Hope he makes the program to be honest

Dolphin from 6-17. He's a pure League kid.

He hasn't been released: he's been granted permission to test the water.
