Broncos Roster, Signings and Rumours Discussion 2026

Yeah obviously you're right! It was a generalisation and a bit of speculation which is 90% of the forum. Probably a bit too hard to grasp for a QPS robot!
I’ve been to too many Broncos old boys lunches to believe that nonsense for a second. I’m sure there are one or two like CONEHEAD that are pissed for some imagined slight.

But even during the darkest days of Siebold, he turned up to old boys lunch at Gambaros and so did a ton of the old boys. They were laughing, chatting, wining and dining, including with Siebold. I had a great chat with the mighty dish-head at my table.

The thought that there is or was any widespread animosity from the old boys, even in those dark times is just as nonsensical as it is today.

I'd be pretty happy to run this out next season on the hypothetical Horsburgh and Howarth come which may well not happen and Jensen is medically retired:

1. Walsh (c)
2. Karapani
3. Staggs
4. Mariner
5. Gagai
6. Mam
7. Duffy
8. Carrigan
9. Walters
10. Barnett
11. Piakura
12. Riki
13. Willison

14. Mozer
15. Horsburgh
16. Semu
17. Francis
18. Howarth
19. Pezet

20. Bunt
21. Talty
22. Piki
23. Verhoeven
24. Poates
25. Bukowski
26. Bryce

Horsburgh put pen to paper today I am told, club is waiting on a release from Canberra…
Interesting...

Not the biggest fan of Horsbruh but we definitely need to shore up the pack with some established commodities.

Barnett/Hors is a drop from Haas/Jensen but if Semu steps up, its a solid middle rotation.

Willison, Barnett and Carrigan starting. Semu, Horsburgh, Talty on the bench.

The Mole was saying Canberra Times reporting he's staying?

if the Mole is saying he's staying there is zero chance he'll be at the Raiders next year

for those playing at home, the Canberra times are basically saying that him staying will depend on the 2028 salary cap which hasn't been decided yet.

Horsburgh's manager Jeff Jurotte said:

"We haven't spoken to any clubs at the moment because we can't obviously," Jurotte told The Canberra Times.

"[Raiders chief executive Don Furner] and I have spoken about different scenarios and salary caps and whatever - if Canberra's got salary cap issues.

"But at the moment he's very happy there and he's contracted to the end of '27, and at this stage that's where we sit."

Don Furner said:

"Corey has not asked for permission to negotiate. Definitely not," Furner said.

Do we have any young fullbacks coming through? Feels like Walsh moving to 5/8 is inevitable. The only current member of the squad with the athleticism to play there would be Mariner. But not sure if he has any ball playing ability or could develop that.

We don't need to move him to 5/8 .

It would be a stupid decision ... Thankfully I can't see it happening anytime soon.

There is literally nothing he can do at 5/8 that he can't do at fullback... The only thing that moving him would do is significantly increase his defensive workload, which will increase his fatigue, potentially blunting his attack.

Walsh gets enough criticism when he doesn't play like last night, I'd hate to see what would happen a move blunted his attack because of increased defence.

Don't fix what isn't broken

I reckon Walsh is actually destined for the 7 jersey. He has all the tools to be a game manager as well and him and Mam at 6 and 7 seems inevitable. But yeah, let's just enjoy him at 1 until we develop or bring in someone else to allow him to move into the halves...unless Duffy or Pezet end up killing it there.

Walsh will eventually move to the halves when he loses his speed. He has the ball playing and kicking to play 6 when in his late 20's.
The only thing that would fast track it is if a gun fullback came through the system... or a fullback like an Edwards that is just elite in defence, yardage and good enough with ball in hand.

If for instance we had Iongi coming through the broncos... you could see an argument of moving Reece simply because Iongi is safer and more of a workhorse at fullback.

Walsh doesnt really change his attacking play whether he's at 1 or in the halves... as shown last night he was basically playing 7 with the 1 jersey on.

The sooner we do it the better IMO. He thrives on the responsibility and ownership. That said we need a decent fullback to replace him.

The good thing about the potential signing of Big Red is he can play a bit of edge which gives us a bit ore versatility within our forward pack.
