OFFICIAL Rugby League World Cup Discussion

Kevin walter will probably give Boyd game one and if he doesn't perform he'll be retired from origin

anyone who thinks Boyd will be dropped from Origin next year are kidding themselves.

If Slater goes around again, Boyd will be wing or center

If Slater has retired from rep footy, Boyd will be fullback

either way unless he is injured, he will be a certain starter

So hope Tonga wins, Aus v Eng is a yawn no matter who wins.

The crowd last night was pretty poor.

But I guess that's what can happen when you jack up the prices for a comp that everyone knows Australia is going to win easily. Who was going to pay a premium price for Australia vs Fiji? Seriously..

I feel like the World Cup was building well after 2008, and then 2017 comes along and they go backwards.

This World Cup has been appalling.

I think it's been a great success. Sure, the performances of Fiji and Tonga were made to look more impressive because New Zealand were so shit, but there a bunch of other countries like Lebanon, Ireland etc, who have basically blown out of the water the idea that there are three tier 1 nations and the rest are all scrappers.

It's just kind of unfortunate in a way that Australia are untouchable right now.

Yeah this. Although I haven't been a fan of the telecast and as Freaky said, jacking up the prices is just a dick move. For the final, yeah but not a game that was essentially a formality. The smaller nations standing up has been a highlight for me.....closely followed by NZ getting knocked out by Fiji.

Idk but I saw plenty of Fijian fans turning up last night even though they would’ve known deep down that Fiji had pretty much no chance of winning.

Gotta love the King of Tonga, at the footy, wearing his team jersey

Thought these NZ commentators wouldn't know who to cheer for seeing as their team isn't in it, but they are clearly in Tonga's corner already.

How often do they play though tbf? Good on them though

This World Cup has been a great success everywhere except Australian crowds. Tv ratings in Australia massive, increased coverage world wide, pacific nations have gotten right behind it, and big crowds in nz and png.

Also I get why people are going for Tonga but England has 250,000 registered rugby league player. That's 2.5 X the size of the entire Tonga population. It's better for rugby league if England make the World Cup and potentially win it (although a slim chance)

I hate how people use australias dominance as a sign of a failed international game. There's millions of people involved in the game outside of Australia. Do union people say the same with the all blacks? Or when World rugby powers like Georgia, Canada or Namibia get smashed? Or do they say how bad the international game is when 19/20 teams have players born overseas with 9 having more then 10 in their squad born overseas. Even the Socceroos have had 100's of players born overseas...

Sorry about the rant, just over the defeatist attitude in regards to international rugby league. The game is bigger then just Australia, but Australians don't see it because we have such a good team (the kangaroos would smash the all blacks in a cross code game-the fact the wallabies can beat them 1/20 games tells me this when the wallabies would struggle in the qld Cup these days)
