MELTDOWN Wayne Bennett - Moves to Souths

Should Wayne Bennett's Contract be Extended?

I’m not a tin-foil hat kind of person, but someone yesterday reminded me of Bennett saying earlier in the year; “you will not divide us”.

With that in mind, imagine, just imagine, if someone has ‘leaked’ this as utter garbage in a big middle finger to the NRL and the media and none of turns out to be true.

I was giggling to myself at the possibility of this earlier today, although I agree it's pretty unlikely.

"Look Wayneo, we're not going to extend your contract as the NRL coach at the club. We'd like you to stay on in a different capacity though."
"Righto, fair enough. Don't tell anyone that part though"
"What part?"
"About me staying on. Let them stew on it a bit. Then we get someone to "Leak" that you're thinking of moving me on at the end of the year. Moose should do nicely."
"You're the best Wayne"
"I know"

With every loss from St George WB is closer to going back. I really don't think there is much chance he will be here next year unless we give him what he wants.

He will have potentially 2 clubs with premiership ready squads.

If the players were 100% behind WB they wouldnt be dishong out the type of piss weak efforts that get a coach sacked

Backing a coach doesnt really have anything to do with a players form. Its not like they arent trying, they just arent playing well.

I can see how this is going to go already.

Bennett will walk, White will get Griffin back here, then the exact same thing that happened under his leadership last time will happen again. The team will consistently finish 8th - 10th, bow out in a whimper and let Griffin's coaching take all the heat for them playing like shit.

Either way you can forget about a premiership for the foreseeable future. The club at the moment just seems rudderless and out of ideas.

It has been very poorly handled.

The club was stupid enough to believe Bellyache would actually consider changing clubs, that was their first big mistake. He was never leaving Melbourne while Smith (and Slater at that time) were playing on. He was gonna leave that piss easy, cushy job to join comfortably the most scrutinized club in the comp? Get real.

How did White shit the bed? He tried to get Bellamy but Bellamy decided to stay in Melbourne.

By trying to get a coach to our club whilst we had our current coach still under contract for another year and then publicly declaring the interest. The smarter move would be to keep everything completely quite and if it panned out then make the announcement. Until then, let the media vultures circle all they want. This really is Whites final chance if he shafts Wayne here. He was in charge of Henjak and Griffen after Wayne. He cant have too many points in the bank left if he ***** this up again.

Good god. If Griffin is our coach ever again... Oh my. I don't even want to think of such a disaster.

I would sooner sign a petition to get Henjak, at least he had some football brains rather than just being a good man manager and asking everyone to eat more.

Deadset, if White sacks Bennett without having a fantastic coach lined up, he's a moron.

Yeah Barba was terrible at the Broncos because he was too big. Then he went to Cronulla and played unbelievably well.

Both he and Hasler have had success with forward heavy teams. Hasler made the GF with Keating and Josh Reynolds as halves... the Dogs forwards back then basically mirror ours in terms of ball playing ability and general skill levels (although ours do have higher ceilings). Maguire's hard ass attitude and training methods could work with a younger squad.
True, but to me the dogs were totally outclassed in both GF's under Hasler including a total demolition job by our perennial nemesis in Melbourne. Also the Hasler style of using the middles is largely adopted around the league nowadays (albeit poor man versions) and has become largely nullified by defenses.

Maguire was highly regarded coming out of the storm system and delivered with premierships (EPL and NRL). I think his style is more suited to success than Hasler's as well, as it is geared to generating ruck speed in attack and controlling it in defense, which to me are the two key things severely lacking in this broncos team, but if implemented would catapult us to premiership juggernauts.

Our management has managed to manage the coaching situation in a less-than-managerial fashion.

White wasn't in charge of Henjak for long, he is the one that sacked him when he took over at the end of 2010.

Ipswich are coming 7th in an easier competition. No thanks..
Broncos coming 8th - so why are we keeping Wayne? Please try to be consistent in your arguments.

I would like to know how the board has actually handled it before making a call on whether they handled it poorly or not.

What's going on in the media is out of the board's control and quite frankly, not their problem.

What they should be judged on is what is going on HQ. How they came to the decision and what plans they have for the near future. That's the information we need to decide on whether they have handled it poorly or not.

If the rumours about sponsors not being happy with Wayne’s marriage breakout/ side chick and his pro Lodge stance are true, that’s pretty poor form.
What happens in his private life is his own business and his redevelopment of Lodge is a credit to him.
