NEWS Seibold is already changing the Broncos

If anyone knows about being bitter about a new coach, I guess it would be you.

Either way, you've got to actually disagree about something otherwise I don't see your point here.

I've made it pretty clear I am not bitter, I respect Bennett, I was disappointed about him leaving that way but I am also very excited for a change and to see how the team evolves under a coach who hasn't been in the system. I've said all this stuff before, I don't have to lavish Seibold with praise to prove that I like him, he's a 1 year promising coach, my expectations are reserved in line with that. He has a long way to go to prove himself as being an excellent coach.
I don't need to disagree about anything. Your posts over the last month have set the tone, and saying you aren't bitter doesn't make it so. It may not be about the new coach, but it definitely is about the old one, you know... the one who was booted out the door via voicemail and email. LOL

I wasn't bitter about a new coach. Hook wasn't a good coach, and regardless of him needing to go, at least he had integrity, and didn't play manipulative games behind the scenes despite the way Bennett weaselled himself back into the Broncos, which was way more backhanded than how Seibold moved into the position now. Didn't hear you whinge about the bullshit PR then...

Btw, (admittedly with a clear exception of 2015, which I am more and more convinced had Walters' fingers all over it), I pretty much knew it was going to be more of the same, boring Bennett ball competitive throughout the season, out with a whimper when it matters. It may satisfy you, but not me.

I think the Broncos offer to move him up into the hierarchy and away from the field was a perfect fit, so we could benefit from his qualities, while not suffering from his flaws, but he showed Bennett really is all about Wayne, and got himself burnt this time, which is fucking Karma at its best, so as far as I'm concerned...

It's about time the Broncos moved into the new millenium coaching wise. Welfuckingcome Anthony Seibold!

We've got music, and he "blows a whistle". So extreme.

Oh wow, we're a totally new club now.

View attachment 4137
I don't see why we need to re-define anything, we're a powerhouse club who has been tantalising close to premierships in the last decade, we just need to make the next step. Slight tweaks are needed, not "Redefining" what a load of shit.

Anon couldn't wait to get out, "damning analysis of club's evolution in the past few years". Yeah, when we went from being hopeless plodders under Griffin, to actually being competitive again. So fucking damning.

The team didn't buy in, apparently. You can bag Bennett for tactics, but his culture is what made this club what it is, and it's what turned us, again with his comeback, into a competitive club again. We certainly were not that under the last two coaches.

If you guys can't recognise that this is fluff feel-good PR then I guess we see things fundamentally different.
I prefer to read balanced reporting. Just because Bennett is no longer our coach, it doesn't mean he was suddenly bad and we need a total transformation. Comes across as nothing but PR pieces to try to smooth over the huge mess of this coaching saga. It's fine, the club should be trying to generate positive PR, but I'm not going to pretend it isn't PR.

I don’t really agree with what you saying here but there is only one bit that I disagree with enough to comment, so that’s what I will argue.

We have NOT been a powerhouse club that is tantalisingly close to a premiership, outside of 2015. We have reached the top 8 only for the real contenders to show us how far off we really are. Hell, last season it wasn’t even a real contender, it was an also-ran team that we made us look like u15’s at home.

That's a confusing way to word a question, so I'm not going to answer it without you clarifying exactly what you're asking. If you're asking, if Seibold does "as well" as Bennett would I call for him to be sacked? No. We may not have won a premiership, but on average we were a top 4 quality team under Bennett. That is the expectation of this club. Seibold should at least equal that, if he betters it, I'll be very happy!

Show me one example where I have bagged Seibold, about anything. Go.
Bagged was wrong, I apologise. I was actually going to edit that out after I wrote it. Strongly opposed, hold to higher standards, resistant. Take your pick out of them though?

Come on now, bennett also had a much stronger and experienced rep level team in those days. It was the steongest in the comp on paper, ours is unproven and young. On top of that, “top 4 team” sounds great but it is twisting reality a little bit, the fact is there was only 5 or 6 finalists in those days. Every team knew this at the start of the season, brisbane were still expected to get in every year due to the squad they had but bennett failed twice. I find it funny that the same rules didnt apply to him with the benefit of hindsight that apply to seibold. If he doesnt make the finals twice you will be among the first on here to call for his sacking, even if it was a top 6 finals series lol...

Broncospwn is copping very unfair lashing in this thread. I couldn’t agree more with his very reasonable comments.

I don’t tend to read usernames when I read posts so maybe he has past form in being negative or something but in this thread he is being reasonable imo.

The players re-signing and the comments and articles released following, really over cooked the Seibold propaganda to the point that it was humorous by the time TPJ re-signed all thanks to him. Now there has been a constant flow of articles making Seibold look like he is loved by all and re-inventing coaching.

Full disclosure I am a fan of Bennett but as soon as both coaches signed for the opposing team I was fully onboard with an immediate swap. I’m also quite impressed by Seibold’s approach to coaching though it remains to be seen how successful he will be, and I am quite excited to see how we go under him. But I’m not going to sing his praises just yet based on some very obvious PR work.

He has a long way to go to prove himself as being an excellent coach.

This is the only part of your post(s) that is leading you astray. Has anybody on here called him an excellent coach? I think we're all in wait and see mode, so is the media. It's clear that the Brisbane media & fans are both equally excited at the prospect of having a fresh start with a guy who evidently isn't afraid to put his own twist on things. If that leads to fluff PR pieces daily and a bunch of people posting how much they love him already, so be it.

I think your problem is that you're mistaking excitement of a fresh start for expectation of immediate premiership success.

We are having a discussion, no one is lashing anyone.

This stemmed from calling tangible changes ‘fake PR’ but as usual everything gets blown out of proportion so far that the original discussion is muddied, only for a white Knight to run in at the end to make this something that it wasn’t.

He’d want to be an excellent coach considering his 5 year deal replacing the coach with 500+ first grade wins.

It’s not a two year deal, we’ve gone all fucking in on a bloke with 25 games under his belt.

lol okay mate. Sick discussion but there are multiple instances in this thread that have put words in the poster's mouth, made assumptions about the poster's future behaviour, and accused the poster of being bitter about the Bennett sacking.

It doesn't take the Gruan Transfer to pull back the marketing curtain on how obviously hard the pro-Seibold agenda has been pushed. I'm glad its being pushed. The club needs to after all the negativity. Doesn't make it any less see through or laughable at times. Again, this is no reflection on how I feel about Seibold or Bennett. In fact, I prefer Seibold over Bennett for this season. But these articles, al though promising things to read, are completely unreliable for how successful we will be or how the player's really feel about it all.

Seems like being negative for the sake of being negative to me.

He just pointed out an obvious PR job. Its neither negative or positive. Its a neutral observation. Take it how you will.

Im guessing you were lobbying for bennett to get the sack in 1988-1991 then?

Pointing out club PR = He is against Seibold not being instantly successful = He thinks Bennett should have been fired in 1988-1991.

lol what?

So youre telling me that you will not be on here saying seibold should get the sack if we are “competitive” just like bennett was in his first 4 years (50% in finals, nowhere near a gf winner with a better roster)? You heard it here first everyone. I very much doubt you will stick to that, considering you are bagging him for trying new things BEFORE ROUND 1 lol

Now someone is telling him what he will do. Also he hasn't bagged Seibold at all. Pointing out how hard the PR team is working doesn't relate to a personal opinion on Seibold's ability.

Wow, if you're not bitter @broncospwn , I'd really hate to see what it's like when you are...
He's gone mate, move on.

Unnecessary jab. I agree with Broncospwn on the obviousness of the fluff pieces and resent that people see that as being bitter. Personally, I'm excited about trying a new coach and don't miss Bennett at all.

When the old school coach with 500+ wins can't get you the premiership, maybe it is time to time to take a punt on the young rookie coach with a modern approach to the game

Every new coach has to start from somewhere.
We were stale under WB. What I have seen from AS last season at the Bunnies and during his first week at the Broncos excites me and gives me more hope of success.

Seibold isn't an experienced coach with a long list of credentials, no one is arguing that, what he is is a promising young (keyword) coach with a seemingly bright future ahead of him. It's a roll of the dice by the club, but he's a man who will change things for the better off the field, especially with the media, and probably on the field as well for 10-15+ years if he finds success.

The alternative was keeping Bennett until he wanted to retire (between the ages of 71 and 80+) and then let him pick his own successor. So basically letting Wayne assume the role of King of the Broncos.

Its not even round one, there are positive stories where the coach is trying something and then you hear “wont prove a thing until he wins”-ffs the season hasnt started yet, how will he do that before the season starts? Its obvious what is getting lined up if seibold doesnt win every game “told you guys, we should have stuck with bennett”. I simply pointed out that its ironic that if the same standards that are already being set for seibold were also set for bennett at the start of his tenure bennett would have been sacked before winning a single premiership.

You and I both know there are a number of people on here that will be cheering just as hard for souths as they will for brisbane over the next year or so just so they can use that as justification despite the fact bennett has gone 7 years without winning anything for us. I apologise in advance to broncspwn if he isnt in this camp, but it seems likely judging by the quick shoot down of a positive article about a coach who hasnt been given a chance to prove it true or false (nevermind 4 years like bennett had).

Souths can have a better year next year, and probably will with the squad they have and bennetts immediate effect, but 3-5 years lets see whos in a better position, and lets see who is held back 5-10 years (broncos 2009-2014, newcastle, dragons until last year all say hello). I simply pointed out Seibold should be given the same leeway as bennett had when he began. As long as he has an end goal, results arent attrocious and he gets everyone going in the same direction at the club.
Nice cherry picking of the comments too, and btw I asked a question I didnt tell him what he was going to be doing.

I cant speak on behalf of the other poster but this doesn’t at all reflect my feelings. I definitely won’t be saying I told you so, and I want nothing but positive things for both our club and Seibold. I don’t expect him to have proven anything at this stage. I have very realistic expectations for next year and will happily have patience with Seibold to find his feet.

It’s just obvious that the Bronco PR machine is in overdrive. I don’t feel any particular way about that one way or another. It just is what it is.

Spwn, you do not have to justify yourself, I think you have been balanced in your posts. I agree with you that they are largely fluff PR stories, but in saying that, I think it is good business and smart marketing by the Club to be doing this.

A. After all of the negative press we experienced from the start of this year about Lodge to the great coaching debacle, it is actually nice to be reading some positive stuff about us for a change.

B. It is necessary to now at least in public (who knows what is really going on internally) that we are all on board the same canoe and all rowing in the same direction.

C. It is also necessary to try and win back the support of those that may be embittered by the coaching saga.

So I really don't have a problem with it.

As I posted the other day, all of the negativity from whatever source will ebb away if we make a good start to the season playing good positive, attacking football with a committed defence. If that occurs, you can expect more positive stories being printed.
Totally agree with that.

It has been like 10 months of straight media crap, I'm sure we're all over it by now. Hopefully with Bennett gone, the media can hound some other club every week. I'm not going to lie, as a fan the politics wear thin very quick. I just want to see our boys play well.

I did say over the last decade.

2008, 2011, 2015, heck 2016/17 a bit of luck with injuries, Gillett not tripping Thurston, who knows. We've certainly had some years when we've exited without even putting up a fight. Last year was garbage when it mattered, but as a fan I can respect that we've at least been competitive. Am I satisfied? Not even close, I want a fucking premiership dammit, and I hope Seibold can push us that 5-10% to get us there.

But we are talking about articles that are talking about the changes he is making, that’s not PR spin it’s just facts and I am saying I like the changes.

Talk about putting words in posters mouths...

I thought spwn was talking about how those articles, while factual, make out that small changes like turning the radio on is some massive cultural shift. And the whistle, well the whistle just confirms it.

It's not that the changes aren't fact. It's that they're not a big deal and they're being made out to be.
