JYY didn't actually retire for a couple of years after the injury as he was trying to come back.

Brisbane Broncos honour Jharal Yow Yeh’s deal with full payout following career ending injury
Todd Balym, News LimitedMarch 19, 2014 12:00am
LUCKLESS Broncos star Jharal Yow Yeh will retire with a full payout of the final two years of his NRL contract after changes to the NRL’s Collective Bargaining Agreement last year to protect players from career-ending injuries.
And in a public show of support for the youngster, the Broncos will turn Friday night’s Suncorp Stadium clash with the Roosters into a “Thanks Jharal” night and will retire his No.5 jersey for the night.
Yow Yeh signed a $1 million three-year deal with the Broncos in January 2012, eight weeks before his horrific leg break in Perth that finally ended his career this week, after two years of courageous fighting.
News_Rich_Media: Dan Koch, rugby league writer for The Australian, talks to Fox Sports about the sad retirement of Jharal Yow Yeh at the young age of 24.
Under the previous CBA arrangements players were entitled to only 25 per cent of their contract if they were forced to retire with an injury sustained while playing or training.
A key demand by the players during CBA negotiations last year was greater income protection after Wests Tigers duo Simon Dwyer and Taniela Tuiaki were forced to retire prematurely with serious injuries.

The NRL agreed players would now receive 100 per cent of their existing contracts, but have yet to arrange insurance to cover the scheme.
Even though Yow Yeh signed his deal and suffered the injury before the CBA changes, the Broncos plan to honour the final 20 months of his deal and continue to pay him until his contract expires in November next year.

That is almost $500,000 more than he Yow Yeh would have received under his previous CBA rights.

The Broncos never doubted they would honour Yow Yeh’s deal and CEO Paul White said while the contract provided “short term security for Jharal’’ the club’s main concern was to help the former Test star move into his new life.
“Over and above that (contract) I think our commitment to making sure that he transitions into the next stage of his life and our support for him and his family I think will be equally as important,’’ White said.
“I don’t think that should ever be forgotten, not just our club but any club and the game as a whole.
“The game is doing that, making sure investments are made in players to transition into life post footy is a little bit smoother and provides more opportunities than it might have done in the past.
News_Rich_Media: Former Origin player Matt Adamson goes over all of the weekend’s NRL action and the retirement of Broncos youngster Jharal Yow Yeh.
“The statistics will say not everyone will make it, stats also say that unfortunately from time to time careers will be cut short by injury and I think all of those issues need to be considered not only now but into the future in terms of how we build a stronger game with stronger opportunities for our players.”
The way Brisbane handled Yow Yeh’s delicate future for the past two years was yesterday highly praised by the player’s manager Col Davis.
Not once did the club question the future, talk of changing a contract that still had wet ink when Yow Yeh suffered his fall or focus on anything other than his physical and mental wellbeing.

“The Broncos have been terrific the way they’ve handled things,” Davis said. “They couldn’t be faulted in any shape or form the club.’’

At the time Yow Yeh signed his deal to stay in Brisbane he was one of the most in-demand wingers in the game, claiming Australian Test and Queensland Origin jumpers in 2011.
The reality is, he was only just starting to scratch the surface of his potential.
If he had remained fully fit he would have pocketed an extra $200,000 in rep payments alone last year.
While he may not receive the riches that are coming to the game’s elite in the coming years, he at least retires much more secure than some of the luckless footballers before him.
The Broncos are urging fans to get to Suncorp Stadium on Friday night to farewell Yow Yeh in style. He will have a lap of honour and the club has launched a Twitter campaign with the hashtag [HASHTAG]#thankajharal[/HASHTAG].
Winger Lachlan Maranta will wear the No.18 jersey instead of No.5.

That is because they went all in on McCullough, ..... and here we are.

I'm guessing it's a troll tbh.

As far as the "Ultimate one that got away" there seems to be a different one of those every couple of months. Whenever a player is in a purple patch of form it will turn out that they played in a carnival here when they were 11yrs old or something and the Broncos fucked up by not recruiting them. GI would have to be high on the list of misses though, that's for sure. On the article, I thought the story was Hodges and Thaiday told him not to come because Ivan was a dip shit or something?

Only McDooley knows the true story, and he is banned so we will never know.

Fair enough. I think I read your post out of context there and thought you were commenting on the first part of IBM's post instead of the last.

No worries. I am part of the furniture around here, albeit I do not post that much.

Why even give him airtime? He didn't offer any alternative solutions. A more interesting story would have been publishing the thoughts of someone on BHQ. In fact anyone. At least some of us offer up alternative solutions.

They should put up or shut up ...

if they were really that concerned about the state of them current Broncos team they would have accepted Seibolds offer to come in and talk to them ... instead of staying home whinging that their mate missed out on the job

Spot on. We cant run a club based on a guy who player part of his career 20 years ago here. I get sick of hearing a player agent or players have too much power. I’d say the old boys association has too much considering how much they piss and moan.
