And the Rabbitohs are not interested in James Roberts.

It's a PR decision to refuse Folau to play NRL with offensive posts remaining online. It will be an even bigger PR stunt to "reconcile" with Folau, as well as appeal to the many players and fans with strong religious beliefs, by making him agree to remove the offensive posts and show that we are all different but all one big community. Hold hands and celebrate our differences.

And then he'll sign for the Roosters.

I think there is a lot of truth to this.

Folau to the Broncos, one can only dream! Such a shame for him to not be playing footy, I barely watch rugby anymore but Folau was the only one doing anything exciting when I did tune in. Remember when he scored that Origin try after leaping on top of another player and scoring one handed while upside down?
That was a beauty.

I actually think gagai will be here next year , he's on $700k . I'm sure Wayne will be happy to use a little cap on a prop to replace burger.

I'd be surprised if the NRL had a leg to stand on legally to refuse registering him.

They do. They are the employer. They don't have to employ anyone.

Exactly... the same can't be said for Rugby Australia who appear to have sacked him on freedom of speech and religous grounds

The reason they are using is that he has offending material on social media. I don't think it's legal to discriminate based on that, given he hasn't broken any laws in posting that stuff.

It is. The same goes for employers not hiring someone after looking on their social media. It's hard to fire someone based on it, although still possible if it is damaging the brand and warnings have been given (like in the Falou case). But in terms of employing someone new, it is very easy to not hire someone based off social media / public perception.

But someone has convinced him that will go to hell if he removes the post.

Do I agree with what Izzy yammers on about? Nope. Am I overly offeneded by what his cult members say in his ear and he repeats? Meh...I don't take on religious advice from anyone let alone a football player.

Would I be stoked to see him in a Broncos jersey replacing a shell of an athlete called Darius Boyd? You bet your freaking ass I would. He is without am doubt one of the top five althletes in this country. I spendt 30 plus years in America and actually believe in freedom of speach, even if I don't agree with what a person has to say goes against my own beliefs.

Literally overnight if that were to happen along with McCoullough being given his walking papers, the Broncos would improve this side ten fold. Just saying.

Yeah yeah, I get it. He is under contract and what he says is distatefull for sure, but watching this team of ours is one fo the things I look forward to and it isn't for the 80 minutes of morality, it's for the gladiator spirit of the game and hoping my side can get into and win a grand final now and again. Am I a heathen? Perhaps.

If we were talking about him signing for another club I would be strongly opposed on the grounds that he's a dickhead that will probably damage the rep of the game, but because our backline is shit and we need him I am of course very concerned with freedom of speech issues.

people are point blank not entertaining the idea of Folau coming back because the NRL have said repeatedly that it will not be happening ... what's the point of entertaining an extremely unrealistic idea ...

He's off contract and Union sides here and overseas are refusing to sign him because of some SJW stance I won't pretend to comprehend (he's a religious footy player, not a politician. Who cares what he thinks? I guarantee if you sat other religious footy players down and interrogated them about their thoughts on SS marriage ETC you would get similar results. Look at the reaction from Folau's Pacific Islander team mates when he was sacked for example). That gives us a very good chance of signing him if we did want him, which we should.

**** Beattie. He's the loudest voice in the game at the minute, but he's not the ultimate authority he thinks he is.

As an aside, quoting, or even paraphrasing, scripture is low down on the morally reprehensible list in my opinion. There are far worse individuals playing Union and NRL.

Stop looking it at as a moral issue and start looking at it as a business issue. Who wants to be associated with the guy who won't stop posting shitty memes about gays and drunks burning in hellfire? Certainly not the businesses that sponsor the NRL.

It's not about them being SJW's it is how it appears for them from a PR stand point and most importantly a sponsorship stand point.

Having someone like Folau in the NRL is probably going to do more good for businesses than his once in a blue moon preaching meme is going to harm them. People are going to tune in to watch Folau play, he'll bring more people through the gates which means more coverage for the sponsors.

Businesses getting political will do more harm to their brand than Israel Folau could ever do, that's what I reckon anyway.

That's some next level assumption there that is simply not backed up by society.

The Broncos can easily spin it by pointing at ex-cons playing for other teams or digging up some past scandal from Beattie

the difference being that others didn't publicize their thoughts on social media ... most companies have social media policies these days and Folau's tweet would violate most of them (at least it would my company's).

that alone would stand the NRL in good stead should Folau take them to court to try and be allowed to play in their competition. which i doubt he would bother
