NEWS Dogs attack Brisbane's No.1 Hooker

Lol! That’ll do me. Just goes to show you Macca haters can’t Watch a game objectively. Blaming his poor performance on Macca has to be one of the stupidest things I’ve read in the history of this forum. Suck it up & take your medicine. He was very poor last night & if Macca had of put in the same performance you would of painted this forum with Macca hate and not offered up excuses.

Yeah but Macca has had 10 years to get his game right and he still sucks. Turpin is still a rookie and is expected to have a bad game every now and then. The thing is though, every player was awful last night.

I thought Turpin was God?

After last night’s performance the Dogs can have him.

If we are going off performance the dogs can have everyone besides Lodge and Haas. I think we should be patient with Turpin he’s already shown he’s an NRL player, the fact is that the whole team bar a couple played like a busted ass

But I’d been convinced by many the only reason we lost last week was because Macca spent the majority of the game at 9 and it wasn’t because Turpin was there. Things like, “We won the last three with Turpin there, now Macca comes back and we lose.” I don’t understand how we lost with turpin at 9. Or is it because the 9 relies on so much more than just their own play?

Let’s be honest, if Macca had of started last night the loss would have been blamed on him. I’m just waiting to see some objectivity from Macca haters...

I thought the tongue-in-cheek was kinda obvious there, as is the whole ‘God’ thing too tbh. It’s what happens after a decade of ‘ehhh’, and hey I have been a huge Macca fan in past years, but I’m not anymore for the same reasons as everyone else.

Turpin didn’t have a good game obviously, but no one really did. Like I said, he was due for one at some stage.

Has Macca ever had a game like that? Not that I can think of, but he will never score a try the way Turps did the week before, and he never puts hits on in defence like Jake does either. Our pack still got dominated so the difference between their service wasn’t as defined.

Everyone saying Turpin didn't have a good game, but I still liked his line speed in defence. He was cutting Brown in half 1-1 and did it multiple times.

I have huge issues with our defence at the moment where there is zero line speed. It was back to Bennett days last night where we were happy for them to run at us/through us whilst we catch them and let them get a quick ptb.

At least Turpin gets off the line and by doing that the rest of the line is required to go with him

I guess from the standard we’ve seen so far from him it wasn’t. And if you played a game where nothing you tried worked, forward passed and coughed up an offload straight into an opponent than ran and away and scored, you couldn’t really be happy with that. Well I couldn’t. But yes his defence was still there which is a good sign.

The defence/line speed thing showed with Sivo’s try. Isaako has fallen off a cliff as we know, but to just backpedal and then not try and tackle the arm holding the ball? It was never not going to be try

Does Macca need to atone by walking naked through Caxton street? We can all go spit at him

Instead of faith militant members guarding him and chanting "shame" we can have BHQ mods chanting "shit".

Why? He's not actually a good tackler.. he just does 2nd man in all game long without offering anything else

Don’t worry, the SuperCoach arm chair fans who only look at stats think anyone who makes 50 tackles a game must be a good tackler. This is why people assume all 9’s are elite defensive players when the reality is the complete opposite. Their tackle numbers are high because they play in the middle of the field, usually play 80 minutes and are 2nd and 3rd man in most of the time with 2 other forwards wrapping up the ball carrier.

Turpin actually has a better defensive technique than Macca does. You don’t cut blokes bigger than you in half and hurt them one on one if you are a mug. I have never seen Macca do that once in his entire career.

Macca is a serviceable half and has done a job in the past but blokes like Cameron Smith and Damien Cook have changed the dynamics of what a good 9 can do for a team in attack and when you have a revolving door of players at 7, an erratic number 6 and a past it fullback who couldn’t slice a hot knife through butter, we need more from 9 than we ever have in our club history.

I’m more than happy to have a Turpin/Segeyaro combo which has actually netted us a 100% win rate so far with Macca as a squad hooker until we find something better.

I think this is more manifested from the frustration of fans who have lost patience with Macca not evolving his game the last few years whilst we have brought in 2 guys this year that have shown a lot more of what we need form out No.9

Whether Macca is to blame or not, and obviously he wasn’t to blame for last night, he is still going to cop it a lot more because he is one of most experienced players who is not providing the team what it is lacking in. Same goes for Boyd. These guys are former rep players on big money who have a lot of experience and especially in Macca’s case, should be in the prime of their careers. So a serviceable game is not enough for fans to lay off them.

Most fans aren’t stupid though, even the Macca haters would admit a lot of players were to blame last night. Biggest problem last 2 weeks has definitely been attitude and we do not have any good leaders at the club to fix this overnight.

The term Macca hater is a bit rich too. I don’t think any of us actually hate the bloke, we are just frustrated and our agenda is we want what’s best for the team to get success week to week, the agenda is not who is playing 9. Success silences all doubters. If Macca plays out of his skin for next month and we won 3-4 games on the trot, I don’t think you’ll find many people hating on him. Most of the criticism he cops is self inflicted. My biggest disappointment with Macca is after playing Origin and being around those caliber of players I at least thought he would come back a better player. If anything he has regressed and become even more one dimensional.

That is why whether you like it or not if we are losing games and not getting what we need out of 9 and Macca is involved, he is going to continue to cop it.

It’s as though this squad can’t cleanse themselves of Bennett’s way nor can they process seibolds new ideas. I can’t really see anything different from last year. 3 one out hit ups, Boyd or the lock takes a nothing 4 tackle hit up and then Milford bombs straight to the fullback. Then if we’re in the red zone it’s the old sweep play to the left or a predictable play to the right which dies with Gillett or the centre. Isaako never sees any ball.
