Why when we have Turpin who actually plays well at hooker?
Don't think Turpin is an 80min at this stage. He will probably be rotating with Paix which is why I raised the idea of Paix spending a year in Q Cup with Friend being the mentor/tying us over until he's ready.

If most are for Dearden spending a year in Q Cup to "get ready" for NRL, then the same theory should be applied to Paix who has even less experience in top grade (and is learning a new position).

I would take him if he was willing to come for something like 250k but not much more.

Paix did spend this year in ISC , injury interrupted but in ISC nonetheless.

Didn't he largely play HB tho? Not really comparable if we want him to be a fulltime hooker.

I think we need to be very selective with who we recruit over the next year. We need to be getting value buys in order to support the promising young talent coming through.

Raiders let go of Junior Paulo, Paul Vaughan, Shannon Boyd etc and bought players like Charnze, John Bateman, Hodgson, Whitehead etc.. They are getting the English half I wanted a year ago named George Williams, we could have used his style of play at 7.

Anyway, Raiders haven't been breaking the bank and they made the grand final this year.

Yeah mostly, I think he is natural 7 anyway.
I think it's silly try and manufacture him into a 9.

I agree that we probably shouldn't try to push Paix into the 9.

I've said it before but I think we should play Dearden and Paix together in the halves in Q cup so that they are ready to take over in the coming years.

Yeah you're probably right, to start the year at least (paid 7 dearden 6). But this all depends on who we have to play 7 , we surely need a nrl standard 7 and a depth half aswell to replace dargan.

It's a good idea in theory, and it would probably be a genuine option if we still had the Clydesdales, but I doubt we are going to persuade clubs in the ISC to run with two rookie halves that aren't even theirs.

The other problem is they are both really genuine halfbacks. Paix also may even have to switch his role if he stays with Reddy as Cullen will be fit for next year and I reckon they will run with Cullen and Gamble in the 6 and 7.

Or we could do what the storm do and use the Falcons as a clydesdale type setup. They follow the same system as the storm and use majority of their depth players, that's why they transition to the 2st grade squad with ease.
We should pick a team be it Reddy, north's etc. and put our best depth players in their positions in that team and get them to follow seibolds game plans.

agree with you but a lot of these clubs existed before the broncos, we don't have any control over them and they are embedded in the community.

hypothetically, how'd you feel if a big conglomerate came into your area and started telling you how to run your own company? you'd tell 'em to get fucked.

but it costs a lot of $$$ to run your own, although the benefits are what you've outlined. continuity in spades.

So how does it happen up the sunny coast with the storm, and the return is really good footy team that brings success.
Why wouldn't they want success? Yeah they might have to follow a game plan and they would need to field some of our young players, but the rewards would be beneficial.

Sunny coast is a relatively new team, re-added in 2009, so nothing like Redcliffe/Souths/Wynnum that have been around for decades prior to the Broncos.

I'm not talking about the club, I'm talking about the supporters of the club. They probably won't appreciate a bigger club coming in telling them how it's going to operate - they didn't need them before, they don't need them now.

Sunny Coast and Wests Tigers have a good blend of their own players and Storm players, but they have defiantly improved the Sunny Coast. It's never going to happen that Brisbane take over a Redcliffe or Wynnum. I think we would be better served have a proper reserve grade side so we can develop players in our own way.

Agree but how does that come about??

It seems like the storm come in and give sunny coast as many as possible and then sunny coast recruit around that to fill the voids... but the storm still found an existing ISC club willing to operate under that arrangement. They did similar with norths and Easts I believe

I'm assuming we can't create a new ISC team (ie the clydesdales) as that would expand the competition... also would we have to fund everything associated with running that new club... and then how does that work with the salary cap. We can only have 30 players (shouldn't be a huge issue considering all the Sydney clubs appear to have a reserve grade squad under their name)

I'd assume we would need to find an existing ISC club that is willing to run with that approach... do the storm provide funding to sunny coast for them to run the club as the storm want them to??

If that is the case you'd have to find an ISC club struggling with funding and basically buy them out under the proviso that they operate how the Broncos want them to.

I think Sunny Coast came back into the comp basically on the condition they'd be wholy supported by Manly for a couple of years as a legit feeder club. Melbourne took over from there once the contract expired. Not 100% on that though.

So, bring back the diehards as a legit feeder club. Everyones happy.

Well I think something needs to happen, having players here and there isn't going to get us benefits like the storm.

Which benefits are you referring to in particular?

Surely if success comes the supporters shouldn't be unhappy about it???
It works for both parties.

You don't seem to understand that it isn't necessarily about winning finals for community based clubs. Not everything at that level is about holding the trophy.

You are essentially proposing that we come in, take over a club, tell them how and who to play, and tell the existing supporters to shutup and like it. That'll go down like a house on fire.

I am not against the idea, but you could not do it with established sides. You'd have to do something similar to what Manly did.
