NEWS Pursuit over as Broncos finally get their man

I thought Wayne ruined his career by forcing him to play 6? Weird

Once again you show that you don’t seem to take other points on board.

Milf was a great 6 in 15 and early 16 as a running five-eighth. Then his coach decided he should be the show runner and be the organiser.

Now I’m not solely blaming the coach, Milf is definitely to blame as well due to lack of fitness, etc but how a coach as great as Wayne was could manage to coach speed and instinct out of a player is still beyond me.

people were begging Milf to take more control of the games. He started doing that and then he’s not running it enough. Milf was our best player last year as the game organiser.

This is a good read about Bennett and his views on Milf:

Being the best player in a side that lost more games than it won is hardly a lot to crow about though. His form may have been good relative to a lot of his team mates, but it still wasn't particularly good.

Milford's 2019 is probably best summed up by the fact that even when Queensland were in a form and injury crisis in the Halves and needed help and Corey Norman is getting picked in front of you, it's a pretty fair indication that you're hardly setting the world on fire.

He's far from our worst offender, don't get me wrong. But simply being better than most in a pretty dreadful side overall isn't exactly a lot to sing his praises for.

I was talking about 2018. We were 15/9 last year.

he was largely shit this year due to reasons I’ve mentioned previously

He was better last year, but he's been on a general decline since probably 2016 and last year was easily his worst season for us. I'm not laying the blame on him for that entirely, or his decline on him entirely, but if he doesn't arrest that decline and turn it around in 2020, it's hard to see us not looking for a better value for money prospect to replace him.

I'm assuming you mean last season. And yeah I agree. He was actually very good for us last year (2018), just not in the way he was earlier in his career. When milf wasn't controlling the team, people on here, people in the media etc were all saying he needs to control the game more and work on his kicking game, he goes and does that and people complain he's not running the ball.

This year he's got a new coach who didn't seem to have much of a clue what to do with him, multiple halves partners and a mid season switch to a position he has played probably 25 games total in his career all while trying to play 3 positions at once and people want to see him punted or say he's on his last chance. It's baffling.

Is Milford the only $1m player to not be a rep star? I feel this speaks volumes about his situation.

Ben Hunt, but I guess that depends on your definition of rep 'star'.

He played origin in the first season of his million dollar contract.

then see previous post about 2019 season

Excuses. He was never trying to play three positions. When he was fullback he only had the responsibility of a fullback and he made a very average job of it. He was moved from 5/8 because he was making a very average job of it. He gets a million a season, we expect he'll do a good job anywhere but he hasn't done that.

He did last year. He only had the responsibility of the fullback? How many other teams relied on their fullbacks to be their primary kicker AND play maker?

To be fair, I think he was mostly moved because Boyd was so busted at Fullback, not because of his own form at 5/8, although that form I'd agree was hardly world beating.

He's on his last chance by virtue of the fact his contract is up for renewal. Ideally we'd have given him a proper Halfback when Hunt left, but we didn't and now he's spent two years being largely wasted. A chunk of that is his fault and a chunk of it isn't, but it just so happens to be that his final contract year is also the first one he'll have alongside a genuine Halfback, so yeah, the pressure is on now for him to show that's all he's been missing. I accept that it's not totally fair, but the situation is what it is and we have to make a call inside the next 12 months about whether he has a real future at Brisbane beyond this current deal.

I believe he has two years remaining in his favour.

Actually I think you may be right. He obviously has a contract for 2020 but I can't recall if it's a player or club option for 2021.

Either way though, if he isn't working out by the post Origin period this year, you'd have to think they'd be encouraging him to look elsewhere if he isn't going to be in their long term plans. Even if he does have a year in his favour, he's got enough reputation, even if it's from a while back now, that other clubs would prepared to bite and he may be better off taking them up on it if he can get a longer deal and better secure his future.

Err,nope. When he was fullback he wasn't the playmaker. He actually seemed to do fuckall most of the time. He did come up for tge occasional kicks but it wasn't like he had a huge workload. As I said, he was average as a fullback and as a 5/8. Sorry, I know you want to defend him but your million dollar man in any team should be a star most of if not all of the time. No one could say with any honesty that Milford had a red hot go every single game.

I'm hardly one to defend Milford or say he had a great year, but honestly, saying he had the 'occasional kick' is just completely factually incorrect.

Have a look at his kicking metres in his games at Fulback. He was our primary kicker, no question about it. To say he only kicked occasionally is just baseless and completely untrue.

Milford's Kicking Metres at Fullback in 2019:

R15 - 265
R17 - 580
R18 - 306
R19 - 100
R20 - 130
R21 - 291
R22 - 425
R23 - 253
R24 - 480
R25 - 265
R26 - 251

He had the third highest total kick metres of any player in the comp, and he had the second highest average kick metres of any player in the comp. That's despite playing basically half the season as a Fullback.
