NEWS Speculation: Riki in for Ofahengaue

Of course, it’d be a conflict of interest otherwise, plus most would need their license to perform their job, unlike footy players.

Nah there’s plenty of stuff you can do without a licence. Work in Police Communications, PoliceLink, property points, drive the front counter at a station, Police Prosecutions, Academy land, projects, weapons licencing, intell work, the list goes on and on.

QPS have decided that the court imposed punishment isn‘t enough, though their disagreement over this severity doesn’t extend to appealing inadequate sentences very often, it is quite happy to impose double punishments on it’s own staff...

As they should in my opinion. They are compromised in their role as they are breaking the laws they are meant to enforce.

And they are punished for it. It is a central tenet of our legal system you cannot be punished twice for the same offence.

Unless you work for the NRL or QPS apparently...

Australian sport are now feifdoms - handing out their punishments from the lofty heights of HQ. The NRL is a law unto itself. What workplace in Australia suspends workers for drunk driving? Seriously? Let the courts hand out the punishment, and let workplaces be workplaces. This is getting to be stuff of nanny states.
Where I work even office staff can be fired if they get done for drink driving or lose their license

If this was Ofa's first offence, it's highly doubtful he would be seeing any time on the sidelines.

This being his third offence would have factored into the decision to suspend him. I think it's fair enough, to be honest.

Realistically, it's his third offence, then you've probably got to add an extra week for Broncos loading, so 3 weeks sounds about right and what we should have expected.

I know this is off topic now, but so it should. The Police Service are a presumed establishment of people whom are to not only protect its citizens and uphold the laws in place, but to abide by them too. The punishment for not, I would argue, should be more severe given the officers powers and responsibility.

I think Bullemor is ahead of Riki. I think Riki being in front of the media for the All Stars has them talking him up

With Offa missing, there would have to be some chance that both guys make the side now?

aren't they both development players ... we'll have a hard enough time getting an exemption for one to play ... we'll never get an exemption for both

I'm basing that on the presumption that we'll be able to replace Perese as well on a no fault stand down and be looking to bring in two replacement players.

Smells of a square up to me; NRL got roasted for Fifitas Bali "punishment"...they have been waiting for a way to balance the ledger in the public s eyes...

Shame for Offa but....rules are rules...if it was me id be treated the same...

Enter Carrigan...🥰

Has there been anything official about this yet? It smells like BS to me.

There has now.

Ofa suspended for two games by the club. The club confirmed that this not being his first offence factored into the decision.

whoever posted that statement needs to be reminded what state the Broncos are in ... because it isn't 1:20pm yet

I would have been ok with this if we didn't lose Lodge for half the year already. Our front row stocks look pretty thin now with those two out and we have a tough start to the campaign as it is.

I’d say this just about guarantees TPJ to the front row:

8. Haas
9. Turpin
10. TPJ
11. Glenn
12. Fifita
13. Carrigan

14.Utility
15. Flegler
16. Kennedy
17. Bullemor?
