Darius rules out Sydney move

It’s a tough situation, there are decent points for and against asking the out of NSW teams to relocate to NSW.
I do wonder if Darius’ situation would be different if he was in the peak of his career, rather then less then a year from hanging the boots up.
Watching Croft being interviewed last night on fox league, he didn’t really seem to say much when asked about Darius’ situation. Darius is still in the leadership group, so I would have thought Croft would have jumped to support Darius a little more (I don’t think there is anything to read into it by the way, it was purely an observation).
I think the majority of our squad would be OK with the relocation, especially having the youngest group in the NRL.

Lets try and turn this into a positive, imagine the bond these boys would form being together with one another for months on end..
Hopefully we can form a “pack mentaility”. This has the oppotunity for the boys to really commit staying at the club for the next 5-10yrs. This could be a genuine dynasty.
A man can dream..

The NRL has said they will pay to relocate the players families, so no uprooting necessary (a privilege most other professions being asked to relocate wouldn’t be offered).

This is not necessarily as easy as it sounds though. For younger players, it is likely fine but some have established networks and their partners / children have establish social / employment / business networks that they need to be in the place they currently live. This is Likely Darius's understandable problem.

All of the big name players that have the influence are all set financially to get them through until next season so they can afford to play hardball with the NRL.

Those are the players the administration will listen to. Meanwhile all of the lesser name players will be struggling and the longer this shit drags on the worse it will be for them.

The RLPA and the NRL need to get in a room tomorrow and sort all of this shit out and not come out until they do.

the AFL has said that, but i haven't seen anything from the NRL regarding this (and i doubt they have the cash to do it anyway) ...

and if the NRL has in fact said this, then that article and this thread is moot ... because he never says he will not relocate to Sydney ... just that there is no chance in hell he could spend 4 months away from them.

I saw the interview last night where he responded with the typical dull Darius look on his face stating there is “no way in hell” he’d be away from his family for 4 months.

I immediately thought of the men and women who literally sacrifice their life every day in the armed forces who are deployed for years at a time for a fraction of the pay that NRL players get.

If I was in the armed forces I’d be livid to hear this and even more pissed when I saw how disconnected with reality he looked when he said it.

Sure, the situation might not be ideal, but plenty of people have it worse off. But hey, if you don’t like it, no one is making you do it.
He was asked and he gave his opinion. I can't disagree with him either. Its too much to ask for a family man (or woman). Remember, with the armed forces, you know what you've signed up for. These footballers are just expected to turn their lives upside down so you can have a couple of hours of tv internment and you expect them to just suck it up for you?
Some players would be fine, just as some people can work FIFO, but its not for everyone and shouldn't given as a "take it or leave it proposition". If they can get enough to agree, fine, but I wouldn't do it.
Whatever happens, the players need to be onboard and consulted, to a man. And above all, those who can't do so should be welcomed back when some semblance on a normal season is on offer (which will probably be too late for the likes of Boyd and possibly even Glenn, the way this is going.
Speaking of which, have a thought of sympathy for all those kiwi players cut off from the family trying to navigate their careers around an off-again, on-again season with little to no idea of when they can see them.

What is TV internment? Forced to watch MAFS on repeat?

I’m not really sure how to respond to your post TBH.

That aside; this has been discussed ad nauseam in this thread, so I don’t want to keep going around in circles.

Footballers dont sign up to sacrifice their lives like people in the armed forces do. Its not a great comparison between them and sportsmen in all honesty.
I just re-read what I wrote. 🤦‍♂️
I certainly didn’t mean sacrifice their life, I meant risk.
What an idiot! 😂

If they expect to recieve the better part of half a million dollars, then yes. That's life changing money for 90% of people, and people have sacrificed more for much less.

They got paid to do a job that has changed irrevocably. If we castigate them we will simply lose them in the long run because some things are more important. As i said, they signed up for a job that takes them away from others for a fortnight at most.
That will no longer be the case in this new fangled competition as it is proposed. They are expected to remain isolated from everyone they know, everything they surround themselves in, to live in an effective prison for 3 months on a now reduced salary? As I said, I wouldn't do it, and I wouldn't expect someone who signed for one thing to be expected to do another.
There may be some players who can do it. They might have no social ties they feel the need to be in contact with or children they want to hold (remember they are isolated from their family or they expect their family to isolate with them (an unfair expectation to demand of an unwilling spouse who has their own life and priorities), never mind their children who won't even get a say and are probably feeling stressed and vulnerable as it is.

If they dont want to do it, its fine, but then they shouldnt be expecting to get paid either. Only the players who sacrifice to try to keep the game alive should.

Boyd never once talked about being paid for not going ... he talked about bring forward his planned retirement

We will lose them? What are you talking about? These are professional football players if they want to get paid the will play, if not they won't. If they need to be coddled this much they can **** off anyway.

He was responded to the post the talked about all players, not Boyd, in response to if we are too demanding on them we will lose them.

Prison? That’ll do me.

It is estimated more than 20,000 people die of hunger every day. HUNGER! In 2020, these people die simply because they don’t have enough food to eat or water to drink.

But sure, asking (that’s an important detail too, the players have a choice) players to relocate, at no cost to them, into what would be (at least) 4 star hotels for 4 months is an absurd request!

As I’ve said all along; this may not be an ideal solution, but we don’t live in an ideal world, never more so than now.

No one died because some one didn't play football. Any yes, it is a choice.
A gilded cage is still a cage.
