Yeah I would rather we pay for a quality spine. Would love to keep him but not for over what the Broncs are offering him. If he needs his mother to call his shots and back flips day to day then it shows poor character. If you tell somebody your signing you turn up and put your signature on the paper, only when the other party is not acting in good faith should you break a verbal contract.

100% Besides who says he won't opt to sign somewhere else after a year on even bigger coin. We are essentially forced to pay him over a million dollars per season which is a very risky investment for us. Especially when we are lacking in so many other crucial positions. I think we have spent enough on our inexperienced and incredibly inconsistent foward pack as it is.

Had a look on Zero Tackle and there doesn’t appear to be too many quality players coming off contract that are unsigned for next season. There are a few that stick out, obviously Grant, but also Cotric, Tamou, Foran & Elliot. However, nobody that is going to fix our issues in one season.
Cotric and Foran, mmmmm, nice! I'd grab those two but only if we could unload Milford. Boyd's retiring so we'd have his 625k . I'd love it if someone could take at least half of the Milford million.

If it’s the money he wants, he would be stupid to stay.

I imagine the Broncos are only offering 700k because that’s all they can afford at the moment. In a couple of years we would be able to offer more but there’s no guarantee on that. At the moment there is a guarantee to be earning that money from the Titans, though.

Rugby League careers are short. This kind of money would be a very powerful temptation.

The quote from his mother is strange, though. About the Broncos losing 6 in a row. It wasn’t long ago the Titans won their first game in a year so to use the 6 losses in a row excuse is a little ridiculous.

Our side in 2 years if done correctly and a lot smarter should be
1.Niu
2.Farnworth/Vudgo
3Staggs
4.Bird/Farnworth
5.Coates
6.Croft
7.Dearden
8.Haas
9.Turpin
10TPJ
11.Fifita
12.Bullemor
13.Carrigain
14.Paix
15Lodge
16.Offa
17.Jordan Riki
Now that's a premiership winning side.

As long as we have a decent coach.

It's not our youngsters letting this side down completely and with few more years experience with our younger players we have atm we will be a stable side.
You are banking on all the youngsters to come good. That almost never happens. History shows that if half turn out to be regular first graders, then you've done well. The side will look nothing like this in 2022/23.

Foran would offer some very valuable experience and would set a good example for the younger guys. There is always a risk with potential injury when it comes to Foran unfortunately. I haven't seen much of Grant but if he is as good as what some people are saying than he is probably worth having a shot at.

Payne signed his deal in 2018 though, before he made his debut. I dare say he wouldn't sign for 500k now given he's already an established first grader that's played for NSW.

Maybe we should've signed Fifita to that kinda deal as well, but everything is easy in hindsight.

Payne signed after his debut. Knocked back bigger money to sign with the club.

I like the audacity of the loan proposal... I don't want to join your club but the money is too much to decline so how about I play for you guys for a year and then return to the Broncs.

What a nest of problems player managers seem to create, no wonder that industry needs a good clean out. The contracts they sign the young blokes up with seem to extract a pound of flesh and another pound if you dare to try and end them later.

Oh and grow some dignity please Broncos command. Just like catering to the whim and time frame of intended coach Bellamy was a horrible look and didn't play out that flash, the same here.. Develop some character and negotiating smarts and put a time limit on it.. Negotiation 101.
If I were advising Fifita I'd say, live a little and try out a few new things. I think if he could find someone willing to pay 1.1 million for a twelve month hire and it's local, hell yes. The Bali bailout buys only so much gratitude and there's no saying another club wouldn't have reached out with financial support in a similar manner.

It's time people stopped pulling out the bullshit loyalty card as not a one of them is loyal to their own player when in a form slump. I read it every day, **** him off, sack him, deadwood etc etc and not an ounce of compassion or loyalty. Fifita doesn't owe us anything and I wouldn't feel as though he owed me much more than genuine gratitude if I'd been the one to pay his Bali bribe (provided of course that he reimbursed me for costs as soon as he was able)

You don't do favours or provide assistance to people with the expectation of reward, you do it because you're a decent human being and hopeful that should such a thing befall you someone out there will do the same for you.

ah that's right, he played and the busted his shoulder a few weeks later.

nevertheless, he signed before he had made his name, it was all potential. i don't think fifita is pure potential anymore.

The jury is still out on most of these young guys though. Only time will tell but like I said before, not all of this current crop are going to go on to have fruitful careers, it's just the law of averages. Maybe in a perfect world perhaps but RL has been known to shatter many a career.

Grant is not off contract, he's signed until 2022 for Melbourne. If Smith plays on next year (reportedly) he will be a free agent next year.

If Smith does play on, we should offer a monster contract to Grant. Similar to Ponga/Knights.

She just knows they will rightfully be seen as money-grubbing and ungrateful when they leave so she this to make it look like they had no choice. Like "yeah you have helped and supported my son through won of the scariest times in his life and made sure he didn't rot in a Bali prison, but you then went and lost 6 games in a row so what choice did we have?"

Could have fooled me considering that's the reason why that shit storm with him started.

Tigers offered the most - he signed with Souths 600k first year 800k option for souths second year. Roosters were reported to have offered 800k a year - he effectively took the cheapest contract.

My maths tells me even with Boyd, Kahu, Macca and Milf or Bird gone we cant really afford to keep fifita long term. Something has to give to get some harder nose edge old school work horses in.

This kind of attitude is what we need to purge right the **** out of the club.
I want Loyalty, i want dedication to being a one club player, and that applies to both the individual player and the club showing loyalty when they are in a form slump.
The player has security knowing the club will look after them for their career, and the the club has security knowing the player wont abandon ship should the going get tough.

That kind of mutual respect and Loyalty will translate to success on the field.

He took the cheapest option because he fucked around on them looking for the money and they pulled their offers. Souths were what was left.

The Roosters made their offer, he wanted more money so he started meeting with other clubs in an attempt to force their hand. They didn't. Instead they pulled their offer, and Latrell was never going to play for the Tigers so they moved on as well. The only club left was Souths. He was forced to take the cheaper option because no one else wanted him.
