OFFICIAL David Fifita signs with the Titans

The club standing firm on the $700k offer is probably the best thing they have done for a couple of years in terms of management. He is not a million dollar player, not yet anyway.

Totally behind the club on this one. He won't be winning shit at the Titans. If he goes there, he'll need to get used to 6+ game losing streaks.
 
Rescued him from Bali and fixed up his injured knee. If he leaves after this he’s an asshole but I’d understand his decision
 
Can't wait to see how NRL 360 jump all over this one tonight. Will be interesting to see what narratives they run with...

Here's a preview:

Broncos struggling to hold onto the best young talent in the game.
Titans should be doing everything they can to get Fifita.
Fifita would change the fortunes of the club.

All while saying in the last two weeks.
Broncos salary cap is skewed. Too much money spent on forwards, not enough on backs.
Broncos have paid overs for players.
Broncos should be doing everything they can to sign Fifita.
 
Honestly, if he does sign with us on a one year, seven hundred grand deal, it kind of works out perfectly for us. I feel like that's about right, but it also doesn't tie us to him long-term, and we get another year to really watch his development and make sure he is consistently changing the course of games. If so, we can then talk a long-term deal worth more dollars. If not, he can chase money elsewhere, or resign with us at a commensurate rate.

If he wants to chase the money at the Titans, more power to him. I think it's too much, and will come with a hell of a lot of pressure. I think he'd still play well, but probably not to that value, not in that team. Does that then hurt his ability to get the same contract over a number of years? Maybe it does, maybe they throw it at him to keep him. And who knows, maybe he turns their fortunes around. Wouldn't be the worst thing in the world to have a competitive team on the Coast.

It's a shame, because I do think he's the most talented forward with the highest potential of our current crop - perhaps with the exception of Haas - but our cap management has been poor plus the circumstances around his management has led to us trying to tie him up last of all. If we lose him it's a blow, but not an insurmountable one. Use the cash saved on a decent half or hooker.

Are we even certain he still is one of the best players in the league? He's had an off season under pies, an underwhelming nines/trials/opening rounds and now an injury. Every other player has gone backwards under the fat one's tutelage, what's to say Fifita hasn't as well?

Pointing to the exception makes little sense. For every JYY there's 20 who have been discarded. I think that's something WB was conscious of and the person not the player was his focus.

He wanted the discards to succeed after football was over, that's the kind of loyalty I admire. Loyalty to a club must go hand in glove with loyalty to the player but it historically hasn't been that way. The entertainment business ( sport ) chews up and spits out so many so I say, get paid the absolute most you can for every minute you ply your trade. It can be over in a heartbeat.

This is exactly what should happen if we lose Fifi. Throw the money at a game breaker and winner that isn't 30+ years of age.

Knowing this club though, they'll lose Fifita and sign someone stupid like Aaron Woods for 6 years at a million dollars a season.
 
I really think buying a big money hooker when we have Turpin is money misdirected. Don't get me wrong, it would be nice but 1. we would be getting rid of an effective player in Turpin for a potential Milford #2 (over priced, under performing), and .2 we really need quality in the 2nd row and halves.
We have dearden in the long term but whether he is our short term solution, others closer to the club could probably be more confident in answering. From what little I have seen, he doesn't look ready but it's hard to say from a half playing hooker.
At this point we have little to lose giving him a go against the bulldogs, and sometimes a fresh face can spark things.
 
Remember the last player that was signed from the broncos for 1mil+ a season. How’d that work out for that club and that player 😂

No way in hell do we need to spend anymore cash on him then what we are already offering.
We need a good fullback, another decent centre option and perhaps a ball playing lock.

Id be getting rid of offa, Oates, bird, Milford, Boyd (gone next season anyway). I can’t believe the money we have tied up in those 5 duds alone.

Yeah it’s shocking. Even if they hadn’t totally mismanaged the cap I wouldn’t want them paying 1.1m for Fifita though.
I like the idea of a big money offer for Grant if he’s available.
 
Where is some of this Grant talk coming from? Have the Broncos mentioned targeting him at all or is it just wishful type of thinking? I can't imagine the Broncs chasing him with Turpin on the books.

If its true what Fifita is doing i'd just pull our offer, let him go and move on. He is playing us and the Titans. If there is a culture issue at Brisbane, Fifita's attitude towards all this is what we need to get away from. I dont mind if he wants the money, most people would chase the money, but playing us off like this ( if true ) isnt what we want.

Grant is 10 times the player Turpin will ever be already. If the Goat plays on next year, Grant can leave the Storm. If we dont find a way to have a crack at him then something is wrong.

He absolutely does look better than Turpin, but Turpin is on an upgraded contract and he's got 2 more years after this. I just can't see it happening, especially with the mess the Broncos salary cap is supposedly in already.
 
Given how well he’s gone, I wonder if Grant is hoping Smith plays on so he can test his value on the market.
 
Karl Morris has to be the stupidest prick around. Giving a quote to one of the biggest grub journos around, QLDs own Danny Weedler, Peter Badel, and giving him wiggle room to turn it into yet another headline to cause the club grief.

Does anyone at the club know how to shut the **** up anymore and not have our business done in the media.

The war of words over David Fifita’s contract saga has begun, with Broncos chairman Karl Morris saying a move to the wooden spoon winning Titans is too risky and could affect his career long-term.

Next move is to go to the Titans and get a reply and off we go , Titans v Broncos feud.
Seriously stupid stuff and the last thing this club needs.
