The Broncos should be training already, they took the whole year off this year, about time they did some work.

they're not allowed to under the terms of their EBA

Dragons and Bulldogs are already back training

I wonder if we are looking at Albert Hopoate. He looked good in the games I saw him in this year.

Wonder if we are signing anyone or just going to come last again.

The scouts maybe watching all the games on Fox, but the media drives a player's value and there is obviously more eyeballs on a Thursday and Friday game than any other night on the week. As soon as a Broncos player has one decent showing, instantly there's headlines about three or four clubs chasing after them.

It's just the nature of the coverage of being a one team town and getting prime television spots. Even in the NFL they always make a big deal about teams performing well at prime time.

Just read a quote from Kevie that Brisbane can't afford to sign anyone else. I don't buy it, but where is the money going?

Anthony Milford - 1,000,000
Jack Bird - 975,000 (St. George are paying a sum of that)
Tevita Pangai Jr - 650,000
Matt Lodge - 650,000
Andrew McCullough - 600,000
Corey Oates - 550,000
Joe Ofahengaue - 500,000
Brodie Croft - 450,000
Payne Haas - 450,000
Kotoni Staggs - 400,000

That's what 6, 250, 000 of our cap not taking into account whatever amount the Dragons are paying on the Bird transfer.

2021 Salary Cap was supposed to be 9.9 Million so that leaves 3 275 000 between 21 players which is an average of 155,000. That will be higher with Bird's departure but that's not a lot of wriggle room, especially if Flegler is supposedly on 600,000 (they have to be taking the piss, right?)
Thats the scary thing, 155k average for 21 players? It doesnt happen. Min wage is 115.

I believe the Broncos will be steering clear of long million p/a contracts and I'd be very surprised to see such a contract at the Broncos during the next 5 years.

That said, I'd be happy to see a two year deal, Captain/assistant coach for CS9 for say 1.5m. Smith is worth that especially when the extra perks are considered. Those would be extra bums on seats, guidance(a guru on the youngsters doorstep), media attention which means revenue and a few other benefits without even considering on field performance.

Would he sign two contracts if he was signing on as captain and assistant coach? Asking for a friend, who is an accountant..

Don't be silly, Broncos aren't looking at anyone at all. You see titains making constant and good signings while we are here doing sweet **** all. We are too busy reviewing everything, im assuming off the footy park to care.

A) I know Albert Hopoate is a rookie which makes him the perfect signing in your eyes.

B) We were never going to make mass signings for the 2021 season, for a number of reasons. like there not being much quality on the market for next year, the 2022 season is when there will be an influx of quality players on the market; also it takes time for a new coach to move players on due to contracts already in place

C) you may have noticed that we still have 6 places left in our top 30 for 2021. This means, there very well could be signings that haven't been announced yet (if they're coming from another NRL club, we'd need to wait 10 days before they could be announced).

I'm guessing the lack of signing news is more about origin. Despite the Broncos on field failures of late it is still the biggest financially for a reason. They wouldn't get much publicity from an announcement during origin time...

History would suggest yes he would.
Sign him up as coaching staff first, then sign him onto the books as season starts for min wage. call it humanitarian reasons 😅 have until June to fill the 30 man sqaud.
*yes i know this wouldnt wash*

They will probably just provide fake names for the final 6 places in their top 30 and hope the NRL accept it.

25. Hayne Paas
26. Corey Moates
27. Antonio Milback
28. Matt Coates
29. Tesi Old
30. John Smith
