and the team that used multiple contracts and gave away boats

edit: the other thing both of these teams have in common, is that neither are big developers, they'd rather purchase

The Odd experienced player sure, but players who have had 1 good season nah, half our team would be rep level if they where at Roosters or Storm.

I can see the argument against Sydney even though I think they get a bad rap, but Melbourne?

Melbourne tend to steal players at the QLD Cup level rather then earlier like most teams who produce homegrown talent.
 
This is the least excited I've ever been for a football season in my life.

Yeah I'd say that is one of the main things.

I'm not sure what the roosters squad looks like beyond their starting 17, but potentially it's full of promising kids to act as their depth. I cant even think of any journeyman type players that sit in their reserve grade except the Morris brothers but they play every week. So in that sense it's likely their depth is full of $100k players whereas we pay our promising players overs before they're ready. Even Bullemor has just earned an upgrade into the top 30, and a guy like Niu is in the top 30. I like both of them, but they could be on more than the minimum $110k and are probably just short of being able to be in the 17 each and every week... yet we have to pay them a bit more, because hype

They got pretty lucky with the Morris brothers being so good... and now they are a little like the NBA teams where veterans will head to them on a cheap contract in the hope of snagging a title before heading off into the sunset.

They really hit their peak after buying Teddy and Cronk.. and got pretty lucky that Keary kicked on after basically being discarded by souths. Crichton was a bit of a luxury buy... although I deem him probably the best back rower in the comp.

The real conundrum to me is why a guy like TKO is not on $700k-$800k... no one has pursued him in the 5-6 seasons he's been playing there despite him being a mini Lolo. Is it shenanigans with his contract (or at least shenanigans on the golf course) or does he just love roosters soooo much that he's happy to be on $500-$600k and in the middle of Bondi

Liu could be placed in the same boat. He's basically been a consistent presence in their 17 for 4-5 years at either lock or prop, but barely rates a mention when his contract pops up. I dont rate him that much but he seems a guy that could earn $500k from a desperate team, but seems to be on about $350-$400k

I'd hate to admit it, but the Roosters could be like the Broncos of years ago. Players will stay for a bit less to have a better shot at the finals and premiership.

If we're talking about players like Cameron Munster, Justin Olam, Jahrome Hughes etc. they either weren't in an NRL system or weren't valued by their club (eg. Hughes at the Cowboys). Melbourne put the time into their development and got the rewards, that's different to heading to the market and signing the best free agents year after year.

Both excellent development clubs. Roosters 10/17 2018 Grand Final side made their debut at the Roosters and two others had played less than seven games at other clubs when they joined.

Storm 2017 Premiership side- 12/17 signed by 19 or younger and 13 debuted for the Storm- Glasby was older than 19.

The rest of the squad is: Joseph Suaalii, Matt Ikuvalu, Billy Smith, Drew Hutchinson, Adam Keighran, Lachlam Lam, Nat Butcher, Daniel Sukaka-Fifita, Fletcher Baker, Egan Butcher with 3 spots remaining.

To have a player like Nat Butcher outside of the 17 is crazy to me. He would easily make most starting teams, so why hasn't a club come around and offered him $500,000 at a minimum? Especially if we're to believe a player like Flegler is being offered $650,000?

If we were on the cusp of a premiership and you just needed the right coach to tip you over the line....would Kevin Walters be the guy?

Instead, we are on our knees, its all our own fault and we decide its time to install....an absolute NRL coaching novice...

Kevs fucked either way....another unfortunate casualty while Rome burns to the ground...

But...thats what its gunna take to rebuild this club....

I don’t disagree with the sentiment per se but on that note, which coach would you have gone with given there wasn’t really anyone of note available?

Look, thats wasnt the intent of my post...simply telling it how i see it...

It was clear no-one else was stomping our door down to join....we gave them months before announcing our new coach so...

It always had to be Kev, but as i said.....has he been set up to fail..?

I really hope not....but such is my faith in the front office...
