Round 5 - Rabbitohs vs Broncos

One play that stood out to me was before that Isaako bomb, Milf creates that tackle break and gets an arm free in the middle but nobody is pushing up. Flegler sort of went with him but despite there being a gap he didn't give him an option which is drilled into you at 16.

That's the issue with the Broncos as a club. They're not playing for one another, they're not working together, they're not giving options. A lot of people give Milford grief because he wonders around the field, but it's like Hodges back in the day where he's looking for a runner except now nobody is giving an option.

Even the Isaako bomb was just bad. Turpin balks him at dummy half, by the time he gets it Isaako isn't even half sure what the right play is anymore and he just hoists it.

I guess Kev was impressed with Milf's defensive effort which may have been his best of the season. I thought overall he was much better in Round 1 and last week where he had absolutely no luck and again not enough people working for him. This week, he put in three bad kicks (the clearing kick that turned into a grubber, the bomb that barely travelled and that shank which ended up going dead) and just couldn't get into the game with his attack.

This team is so full of doubt and anxiety it’s getting so bad that by the time we finish playing the next two weeks some of our kids will need serious psychiatric help.
If it’s too hot in the kitchen for them, they know where the door is.

These same kids are quick to ask for the money before they have proven themselves despite the pressures that come with it. If they can’t handle it, put your hand up, admit it and ask for less

These same kids are starting to get a few caps under their belts now and are barely rookies. They have also been playing footy since juniors and were recruited as some of the most talented players in their age group. They should at least know how to do the fucking basic fundamentals.

I agree, but i would love to see Milf getting up the players on the field when they let him down as you describe. He is old enough, experienced enough and a senior enough figure at the club to be educating the young guys on the field, even if by way of a spray, when they aren't doing what he needs. All we get from Milf is a stern glare, he needs to bark at these guys.

One of the shows after the game last night, might have been the Matty Johns show and may have even been Tallis said that players like Milf aren't just paid to perform on the field as an individual, they are also paid to perform on the training park as a leader and make other players better. I think a lot of the Milf hate comes of course from his execution at times but his lack of leadership is frustrating. I get that not everyone is a born leader but it wouldn't kill him to step up in this area.

Love how so many want to show all the kids the door after not many first grade games.
What happens if we do that.
We bring more kids through and if that's the plan then we show them the door as well???
We will be forever stuck in the same place.
Kev has to be given the time he needs , that's all we can do.

- Pointless midfield bombs.
- Giving away a seven tackle set just when we started to get in the arm wrestle.
- Getting tackled on the fourth a few times.
These are not the fault of those around him, that’s the fault of Anthony Milford being lazy and uninterested.
His time is up at the Broncos, the sooner he is dropped from the 17, the better.
Really? A seven tackle set? In an age when we regularly defend 8/9/10/11/12 tackle sets you think a 7 tackle sets a big deal?

It wasn't actually a 7 tackle set I believe it was either an 8 or 9 tackle set as there was an early 6 again given AND we defended it without much fanfare.

I haven't been a Milford fan for a long time and I do agree he should go but I'm only going to put shit on that which deserves criticism. He is much improved over the last two games in defence and that MIGHT help his attacking confidence. If he keeps improving we should stick with him in the short term.

I think its more a case of wanting a better blend of youth and experience and showing the 'kids the door' if they want us to overpay them through a bidding war when they haven't shown much on the field.

I agree but it's hard to keep your head when 'veterans' on a million bucks are losing theirs. Or your 'veteran' captain seems to be stuck on a course of Mogadon.

I don't know that anyone wants to show all the kids the door. Just the over-rated, over-hyped useless ones, such as Dearden and Flegler for example.

I know this has become a popular meme on this forum but kickers generally don’t chase their own kicks because they’re getting belted by fucking back rowers as they kick it
To be fair the best kickers, DCE for example are quite often the first or second guy down the other end. Milford always leans back off his kick and almost never chases. He definitely can improve there. Watching DCE kick in his last match he positions himself so he's little chance of being tackled but he leans into his kicks and launches forward into a sprint.

I actually think he's been running his mouth as much as the football lately, poor Turps cops it all the time. Even with that example I described you could see him give his team mates a spray as he succumbed to the tackle.

Both you and Gordie are a 100% spot on.

If I could take a free shot at the stumps, I'd go a different direction with Milford and tell him to stop being so selfless. He is their best attacking weapon, so carry the ball 20-30 times and let the team play off the back of it. Get him around the ruck and just turn him into the five-eighth version of Taumalolo. Only pass it when it's absolutely on because right now nobody else is bringing you into the game.

Just make sure it’s not on the 4th tackle otherwise BHQ will blow up.

Losing what little faith i have in Kevvie when he comes out and says he saw signs of Milford improving in that game.

Hell, Greg Alexander straight up called Milford a thief for taking Broncos money and delivering nothing for years, he didn't sugar coat it, he didn't mince his words, he straight called him a thief and everyone on the panel agreed with him, and the conclusion was that Milf 100% needs to move on, and that this is the best move for both him and the Broncos.
Joey and Freddy have said similar as has Gus and that idiot Tallis.

When you have the biggest RL brains in the organization all saying the same thing, and that also lines up with the majority of the fans perception, then fucksake maybe its time to listen to EVERYONE and drop Milford.

Everyone knows he is not the sole reason we are doing shit, and i don't think anyone is specifically stating that, but he is a huge part of it, on the most money, and seems to have every excuse in the book for his performances.
His time is up, it is too late now as far as im concerned for any redemption story for Milford at the Broncos.

Hopefully the Broncos don't have the same train of thought. The lesson shouldn't be Milford shouldn't run on the 4th, it should be let's work on Isaako's kicking game and give ourselves more options. Let's work to our strengths instead of trying to play like someone we're not.

It’s not a popular meme at all.

Before you get defensive, if you have time, honestly go back and watch some of his kicks from last night in particular (although I’m sure there were more than a few examples in the other 4 games so far). At least every third (but every second wouldn’t surprise me) kick he put in he was not tackled, not interfered with and had ample time to chase if he wanted to.

I genuinely think you’ll be both shocked and appalled at the lack of effort.

I'd like to see it a bit more constructive in breaks in play, walking up the tunnel at half time, in the sheds before the game in Rikki or Teo's etc ear about when i run at x player make sure you are f'ing following me as i will beat him and draw your man away etc.

It's common to see other halves doing it throughout the game and i do think Milf is capable of dragging a few of these guys with him. I'm all for him finding his voice in whatever form it is though.

So Dearden should be shown the door because someone overhypes him. He is 20 games into a career and hasn't had the luxury of a development year in Q cup. The club sees something in him worth exploring but we have other clubs trying to poach him including Melb.
Didn't Bellyache have him on a depth chart. It's not just the Broncs who think he has talent.
Seriously, after 13 games we just say, **** it, you've had your chance.
Flegler, I like. He had a very good first year and has been average since but I think he will develop. The biggest criticism of Tom has been he is overpayed. That's probably true but as far as showing him the door, it's too early.
