OFFICIAL Tom Dearden lost to Cowboys

The Cowboys have offered Tommy Dearden a paltry three-year deal worth a mere $1 million sealed with a dubious promise to be mentored by some guy named Jonathon Thurston. According to Dobbo, that works out to be cool $1 million dollars a year, maybe more if you count it in potatoes, but you might want to double check his maths.

Thurston's single premiership pales beside Dearden's current brains trust of Langer & Walters who've each won more premierships than Dobbo can count.

Greedy Cowboys football-operations baron Michael Luck said:

“Now that we’ve got Chad, we haven’t ruled out Tom at all. We would still love to have him here and we believe they could work well together as a halves pairing. He is still coming through and learning the ropes and we think Tom can do a wonderful apprenticeship riding shotgun with Chad and then potentially take over from him and be a long-term playmaker at our club."

“It would be great news if Tom accepts our offer. Tom has shown some things we like, so we would love for him to be here. Tom grew up in Mackay, he was part of our junior academy five or six years ago and then he went to Palm Beach Currumbin (on the Gold Coast) to finish school."

“He has done a great job coming through the ranks during a trying period for the Broncos as a club. I know it’s a big decision from Tom so we will give him time and space. We know he is a wonderfully loyal kid, he has come through the system at the Broncos and if he leaves it’s a big decision for him, so we’re not putting any deadlines on him.”

Let's hear it for Townsville!

Meanwhile local legend Kevin Walters is having none of it:

“Tom is part of our system so at this stage we are not looking outside the circle. We don’t anticipate losing Tom. He has been a good player for us in our systems and he’s still learning the game but we see little bits of improvement in Tom each week and we expect that again tomorrow night from him… no problems there with Tommy."

"We have been through everything with Tommy, he has a nice clear picture in his head about his job in the side and we are confident he can do that job for us (on Friday night) and moving forward as well.”

“If you wear a seven jumper these days you are linked to the Broncos, so that part of it… we are a big club, we are a strong club. It’s great to know other players want to come and play at the Broncos, that’s what it is all about. For us, we have our structures around what we will be doing and won’t be going outside those structures.”

“Adam Reynolds is a good player and there is some interest in him, but we need to tie up Kotoni Staggs first and if and when we do that, we will look at our other scrumbase options."

Mitchell Moses, another rumoured player of interest said:

“I‘d love to stay at the Eels, that’s my main thing, I’ve made that clear to them but that’s up them now if they want to keep me or if my management will sort it all out. When a contract is ready to go my management will let me know.”

“The ultimate goal is to get a premiership. But everyone is different Everyone is in a different situation and different ages, all those types of things. The premiership pact gets tossed around every now and then but nothing in depth. The way footy is at the moment everyone looks after themselves and that‘s how it is.”

Agree, i think he will be in the 350-400k range whether he stay's here or elsewhere.

Probably have to be willing to accept a 1 year deal though.
He's still young enough to say play for x and earn your big Y final contract.

Not that it should have to take that to have them play well but who the **** knows anymore.

i think a lot of people are forgetting Drinkwater doesnt want to play fullback tho, he's said multiple times he likes 6 more

how many clubs would have a 6 available for him... i doubt too many

I know some on here will say $3 million dollar contract over 3 years go Reynolds is too risky and paying overs at his age but we currently have a million dollar half playing in the ISC.

I know which one I’d rather. We could even offer $1.2 million for Reynolds if it took that to get him here and we’d still get more value with his wage than we are out of most of our current squad.

What we do in the market between now and September will determine what faith I have in our direction going forward. Early signs are far from promising
I see it as a pretty low risk really.

$3m over 3yrs puts a timeframe on it... it's unlikely he will play on after it, yet when he comes he is the halfback, goal kicker and probable captain. After 3yrs we'll have $1m a season to spend again.

The million dollar contract we put into Milf was sort of like a 10yr investment... we basically banked our future on Milf becoming a premier half and building the team around him... at the end of his 4yrs it wouldve been anticipated that we extend him out for another 4yrs.

A 3yr contract for Arey is literally a stop gap situation until we sort our shit out

Given that he has copped $1m a season for bludging for a few years, I would reckon he should be paying to play. Greg Alexander was right .
Brandy is a fucking fool and so is anyone who agrees with him.

If Milf did stay for 200k, he and Reynolds could be a pretty good halves pairing and at a good price for all involved. Milf owes the Broncos money and if that helped land Reynolds, having a controlling halfback would help Milf.
Yeah...he aint gonna stay for 200K....I don't blame him. 400-500K would be a realistic offer that if he's worthwhile persevering with....should take the offer and be happy to try and give back to settle the score.

Have fun in ISC for the rest of the year Tom.

Actually no we should just keep him in first grade and let him get wrecked before he gets to NQ.

I was dead against signing Reynolds but it doesn't look like we have a choice now. Staggs can learn his trade at 6 from an experienced half and Croft can be a depth player for a halves and hooker injury.

You are assuming he is going to get an offer like that from somewhere else, he won't. Aside from us, the other desperate clubs have already locked up their halves just about and the Tigers are currently trying to get rid of their own version of him on an inflated wage, they aren't going to offer him that much.

The Titans I reckon would offer 300k.

Things would feel a whole lot better if Kevvie was able to sort out Milford's head and get him back on track.

I think he still has the talent, he has the kicking game, he's a clean skin, a family man, he has all the attributes of a marquee player and long term half for the club and he is still young, he could be that half you build a squad around, but for whatever reason he just can't pull it all together.

I so badly want him to come good and step up.

Put money on Staggs leaving the club as well.

Maybe that needs to happen and is part of the process, despite his on field efforts he does seem a bit like a dickhead.

It might be for the best.

*EDIT* I'd suggest Coates is bound for the Storm, if its saves us $500k on winger I'd say its probably a blessing.

The forgotten man in all this is Gareth Widdop. Would he be willing to come to the Broncos?

You could put Farnworth at Fullback, then maybe pick up a younger English half if Staggs leaves (Jake Trueman from Castleford maybe? ) And grab a lock while you're at it. (And let marketing call it the English connection 😒)

That's my 2 cents anyway.

It is an interesting concept but if his body is as broken as suggested, he's not what we need, we already have too many overhyped, overpaid and broken players.
