Was it really the Pies to blame?

He was. He was a dud leader, and became a really dud player, who had dud excuses.
Not really what I am disputing though. The whole just a game comment being used against him is a brainless attempt when there's plenty of other things to criticize.

He might use better words next time, but I agree, it's taken out of context. He's still a douchebag though.

This whole mess is through so many things. The senior playing group lost any semblance of resilience. The introduction of a new coach gave the senior playing group a scapegoat for lazy and weak mentalities. The changed draw and new reffing of 2020 was a hammer blow to a young, inexperienced and mentally susceptible playing group. Let's not forget that we went from 2 wins with a string of weaker teams in front of us, to a new draw against some of the top teams (eels, roosters, manly). This was made worse by new rules, of which we were the test team (playing first on a Thursday night), AND we came close in a few games (manly/knights) but copped bad calls and multiple 6-agains EARLY, to essentially instil fatigue. As I always make the analogy, it's like running a marathon, but starting with hill springs.

In much the same way, so was our season. The players cracked. They clearly turned on the coach, on each other, and switched off for the most part. Boyd's gender reveal summed that up perfectly. They gave 0 shits after about Rd 9.

Now, you have mentally fragile young players who have no belief in themselves, a pavlovian response to the 6-again bell, a new coach teaching new systems, no trust in a halves combination and probably already switched off for the year and are just waiting for Reynolds to get there.

They don't care. They get a pay check, they go out, give it a crack for 20 min, then when the inevitable momentum swing comes, just think "**** it", or probably more than likely think that the guy next to him is thinking that and it ripples down the line.

one lazy mistake in the middle and the backs think meh. One shit play by a back and the forwards think "why the **** did I bother running so hard?"

Also, now that the V'landysball has been more evenly smeared across the competition, it's becoming clearer how such influences are capable of causing blowout scores. Honestly, the NRL is being seen now by many more than just Broncos fans as a rort, I was never in favour of manipulating the game to prevent blow-outs, simply in consistency in reffing. We still don't have that. We simply have less accountability in the reffing and inconsistency is almost erased by early biases. Teams that give away a penalty string early are now doomed to be disadvantaged throughout the game. Couple that with inconsistent send-offs and sin bins and you've ruined a sport.

As if the bunker and refs are impartial. They are not.

It’s round 14 and we’ve played 5 home games. 2 wins, 2 strong performances, and a pasting from the Storm.
We’ve got seven home games and a bye still to come. Are we shit? My fur coat we are. Will we win the spoon? Unlikely.

I think you're right. I think Kevvie has told the boys that they MUST perform at home. Set that as a year goal and the rest of the games do your best. We need to bring back the pride first. Can't just be like "win everything". It doesn't work like that.

Also got completely embarrassed by Manly at Suncorp.

Papering over the cracks, we weren't genuine contenders at all.
I thought we actually were a shot at the GF in 2017 actually. From what I remember in the 1st week final against Roosters we went a couple of minutes and a Latrell palm on the Jet's chest away from having a week off and going to a prelim game, so anything could have happened.

Because we lost we played a brutal game against Penrith, then had to go to Melbourne to face Storm with an extra week rest..🤮

Of course, Pete will let me know if I'm wrong haha

Was Mr ‘Burn the boats’ to blame? I’m going to go with a yes, yes he was.

his mantra was literally to leave our past behind, and since that point we have been a fucking laughing stock.

In retrospect, the Broncos were finished the moment an understrength Eels outfit put 50 on them at home. They were only two weeks out from the finals, that was an opportunity to make a statement and they blew it. The following week Darius suffers a hamstring injury that would ruin the end of his career making their spine really unsettled into the final.

They did well to nearly snatch victory from the Roosters, but I think that said more about Sydney's complacency at the time. They were headed to a comfortable victory until Blake Ferguson came up with some horrible mistakes to invite Brisbane back into the contest.

You're right about the Panthers game.

I would suggest the Storm Prelim Final was a lot closer than the scores would suggest. Melbourne only had their noses in front for the first 60 minutes. Their one try was against the run of play and Brisbane were more than meeting them in the arm wrestle. I believe they received all the 50/50 calls including a blatant knock on from Slater at the back which would have provided the Broncos with an opportunity. Regardless, Brisbane didn't take their opportunities and Melbourne ran away with it in the end.

In response to some of the online threats?

Context.

Did you see what fans sent to Sean Keppie the other week?
Apologies, forgot the context and kinda burned it into my brain that it went along with his not really trying phase of his career.

Not sure who Sean Keppie is sorry. What happened?

Manly player. Definitely had a blinder against us

Got handed a rich 5 year contract with limited credentials. Whinged about Bennett to the media and soon arrived at the club a year early. He was feeling pretty cocky at this stage and decided to put his own stamp on the club disregarding it's decorated history.

Things started badly from the get go only winning one of his first six games before making a mini revival including a lucky draw against the Warriors which enabled them to sneak into the playoffs. Only to be eliminated in a style not seen before in the history of the game.

Started 2-0 the next season and Seibs was talking up a premiership. The COVID break came and I'm pretty sure the Broncos thought the season was finished because they looked unfit and were totally unprepared for the new "6 again" ruling upon their return.

2 games back from their return they suffered their biggest loss in history (at home to boot) and it was evident that there were huge problems within the club and the players weren't buying what Seibs was selling. A few floggings later and an increasingly stressed out Seibs jumped ship stating family reasons and never returned.

This is all on Seibs. He took a club who consistently made the playoffs and often as title contenders and turned it into a complete shit show in less than two years. Now Kevie is left to pick up the pieces and is finding it to be an impossible task. Only the future will tell us how many years (not to mention dollars) he has set the club back.

Seibold was perpetually bereft of accountability, making excuse after excuse for every loss.

He helmed the club during its worst ever period bar none - although this season isn't much of an improvement.

He appeared quite toxic to the culture of the club and the players from the outside looking in and had fired absolutely no shots when it came to dropping his top tier players who were literally the laughing stock of the community (Boyd, Milford etc).

Boyd seemed to actively whiteant Seibs, which I'm sure he knew about. He should have dropped him and kept him away from the squad. However as Seibs had no backbone, it never happened.

Seibs tried to act all smart but he was so 'clever' that he couldn't make his playing group understand what the hell he wanted.

In my opinion though, he was a bit of a scape goat for larger problems the club was (and practically still is) fucked up, top to bottom.

Donuts may have secured ARey, but I've yet to see anything resembling a CEO with some balls yet. Nolan still works there FFS.

Don't get me wrong, I hardly think Kev is an improvement. I thought his efforts at Maroons level was pretty poor. He took a champion squad and almost bottled the first 2 years even though we should have smashed the blues harder than we did.

The second two years were a better reflection for mine of where his coaching was at, sticking with people who were long past it, unable to make tough calls.

It seems someone really hammered that last part home hard to Kev about taking the Broncos gig, because he's overcompensating.

Bennett is the only decent coach this club has ever had and even I was seeing the writing on the wall, his time is up and he's not our answer. We need a proper long term coach who has some serious creds, NFI who though, but we'd probably need to poach them.

Bennett, Bellyache would never have courted Walker the way Seibs did (out of pure arrogance) they would have had a heart to heart with them and they almost always get their men. Robbo is quite the same way. I think Kev would have totally screwed up the Opp with ARey had Donuts not given him some firm direction.

I'm hopeful that Donuts is just getting the full lay of the land before instituting major changes at the club because I think they don't have much time to waste, a pre-season to fire and re-hire staff is just not going to cut it in time for our '22 campaign. Accept that this season is over and bring out the torches now.

I seriously doubt we've hit rock bottom yet.

Re: Nolan - It takes time to remove people from large companies without good reason. I'm sure it's going to happen, but Donuts can't just be like, you're done, son.

I'm hopeful like you, but I'm convinced we will have no success until Brisbane 2.0 is established in the NRL. Following that, Broncos will need to be good for the sake of the NRL. They want a spectacle and a money maker.

Thanks Pete, I remember the knock on in the play the ball from Slater because I remember blowing up about it.. I think Moga blew a couple of good opportunities also..

I did forget about the Parra flogging though...Ugh.
