Seems we have three options for the No 6 jumper next season,

Albert Kelly
Tyson Gamble
Kotoni Staggs

For mine, I reckon Gamble is the man for the job, he plays what's in front of him and would be a great partner for Reynolds who is one of the best game-managers in the business. Staggs is one of the most destructive centres in the comp and moving him would be a big mistake at this stage. Kelly on the bench as interchange.

You don’t like our Mam?

Similar to what I said in another thread, I think a healthy concept in sport is to earn your position, and then to own it until you fail there. To that end, whether you reckon someone coming up might be better, I think the following own their positions:

Prop: Payne & Tom
Second Row: Kurt
Lock: Kobe
Hooker: Jake
Half: Adam
Five Eighth: Tyson
Centres: Kotoni & Herbie
Fullback: Tesi
Wing: Corey

Unless they trial particularly badly, or are clearly overshadowed in training, these players should all start round one. Selwyn demands to be in there as well, but he doesn't trump Kotoni.

But back on the topic, of 6, I might be alone in preferring Albert starting with Tyson on the bench, where he might be able to come on for Jake, Albert, Adam or even Kobe for impact. You will know when he's on the field, that's for sure.

And doubling down on earning your right, I think Adam's preference for who should play outside him should carry substantial weight. If he wants Kotoni, go with Kotoni.

Though obviously, Kevvie always has the final say.

I mostly agree but no way both Gamble and Turpin get the 9 over Paix. Either Turpin starts with Paix on the bench or Paix starts with Gamble on the bench.

My argument is Jake has earned his position by merit of having held it all season, not having failed there and being promoted to captain. Regardless of what you think of Paix's potential, he's still an ISC player. Has he ever started? I can't remember.

He did when Turps and I think Levi were injured/out of favour and then I think he also proceeded to get injured and that was that.

Cory played 4 games off the bench in 2021, a year where Kevvie trialled more than 10,000 spine combinations. Danny Levi was the preferred backup hooker, playing 9 games. Danny was let go for 2022.

Cory's claim on the 9 is some way off.

only if we sign another quality hooker ... if Turpin is his only competition, it won't be long before the spot is his

What evidence do you base that on? He had all of 2021 to claim the spot.

Let’s face it, the chances of him making the side are very slim. He’s nothing more than depth.

In all likelihood he’s never going to be anything more than a reserve grade half.

I have no qualms with Turpin holding the starting position, my issue is with Gamble taking Paix’ bench hooker role.

Oh, I put him there because Albert's my 6. The subject is moot, anyway. Tyson will be 6.
apparently it isn't, as Joe has stated.
@Smokin' Joe Well there's a fight I'm not going to pick!

Love him mate but is he ready to sit at the top table ?

No, but neither is Cobbo.. doesn't stop the majority of people on here selecting him at fullback. I do think he will be a great player for it takes time to get there

You watch enough highlight reels you will convince yourself that anyone is ready for the NRL
