Don’t get me wrong, I love Oatesy… top 10 all time bronco for me. But his early career was a bit rocks and diamonds. He would admit this in interviews as well, often saying he needed to bridge the gap.

That was a real average game. Nobody played particularly well.
Walsh and Herbie our worst, followed by Reynolds. Reserve forwards were average too.
Oates, Ezra, Carrigan and Haas were probably our best…. But none of them were ‘good’
