It's confusing because we've lost so many players, and have signed no one of note, yet we are still struggling to find money in the cap. The balance is all wrong.
Was not a fan of shifting Cobbo to the forwards when he was the only one posing a threat on the left edge. If we needed to bring Karapani on, there were other ways to do that without dulling our only point of attack.
We are in this position due to some really questionable recruitment and retention decisions since Ben Ikin left. At full strength, we are a top 8 side, but even slightly depleted, we become a bottom 8 side. The disparity between our first choice and reserve players is too big.
Ikin made some...
I've not been impressed with Mariner since he has returned from injury. A couple of times in each match since his return he has come up with some dumb and lazy plays, or moments where he is not paying attention leading to basic errors. He needs to find the form he had earlier in the season.
It's getting frustrating to see so many random injuries, especially when it is against the good sides. In every game that we have lost this year, there have been unexpected injuries that have lead to the entire team needing to be reshuffled. It feels like we were in all those games, only to be...
Yeah I think TPJ as a middle forward would end up being redundant pretty quickly, and as an edge backrower, there are probably better/cheaper players out there who could add some depth to the squad.
Hence my suggestion to manage his minutes off the bench. I don't think he is going to get burnt out playing 20-25 min stints off the bench. If he is looking tired, play him less minutes for a week or two.
I would say sending him back to reserve grade where he might do longer minutes in an...
Not sure why it matters if Willison was injured previously. He is not injured currently. ACL and syndesmosis injuries can happen to anyone at anytime. His age has nothing to do with it. Are you suggesting we don't play Xavier because he has been injured in the past?
Baker, being the more...
Not disagreeing with anything you said, but looking at the three errors from Hunt, I believe they are easily fixable.
The bombed try was a pretty hard and slightly high spiral pass in wet conditions which ended up just over his shoulder. He probably should have still caught it, but If just a...
I agree. Hunt was mostly solid. I think the issue is that due to injuries, we are expecting Hunt to play 80 minutes, but he is only less than 20 games into his career. I think fatigue played a part in that awful 10 minute period, and perhaps he would be better suited playing shorter stints...
He would definitely be a slight upgrade on Hunt. He has played more NRL games than Hunt, and is a specialist backrower. We lack depth in the backrower, so it would be nice to bolster that. If we can find another cheap experienced backrower as well then that would be even better
I don't think we should rush Reynolds back just yet. An extra week off wouldn't hurt, and I kind of want to see Madden build on his last few performances and get some continuity. He is improving and looking more confident. Perhaps he is beginning to find his feet in this team.
I think we could...
Josh Schuster is what I imagine the result would be if someone were to try and create a hybrid of Anthony Milford and David Fifita in a science lab.
Now on paper, that probably seems like it would result in a pretty good player, but unfortunately he has inherited all the worst attributes of...
Our attack looks better whenever Smoothy comes on, because he is able to get the ball to Mam and Walsh with crisp passes out of dummy half at the right times. He can also mix it up a little bit where he engages the markers before passing, which creates space around the edges.
I think Walters...
If Xavier and Ben can become capable of consistently playing long minutes at their size, our forward pack in the next year and beyond will be unstoppable. How can anyone compete with the following rotation, once fully developed?
8. Jensen
10. Haas
13. Carrigan
15. Willison
16. Hetherington
17...
Milford has no desire to be an NRL player anymore. For someone to be out of first grade for as long as he has, you would expect they'd be in the best shape of their lives for whenever they get the call up. For him to be in the shape that he is in speaks volumes on his attitude towards his...
Agreed. That was a bad decision from whoever did that. Milford never had any of the attributes of a top halfback, and it completely stripped away any of his strengths. Not sure why they thought that was a good idea.
The same could happen to Mam, minus the weight gain and laziness. It would be...
I personally don't see Mam as a halfback either, but it doesn't necessarily mean Madden is out of the picture all together. They could be thinking of a Mam and Madden partnership, and the numbers in their back then becomes a bit meaningless.
