Agreed. I've been hopeful that we would go out and buy a halfback because I don't think Madden should automatically be handed the halfback position after Reynolds retires. He still has to earn that position. Plus having multiple players vying for the one position would be a good thing...
Unfortunately for Jock Madden, he has rarely had the luxury of being the starting halfback in a full strength team. He has also not played many games consecutively to build combinations or find consistency. It is also hard to stand out or command the ball when players like Walsh, Mam, Walters...
Yeah, Baker is definitely missing Flegler's speed. But at the same time, there are other forwards who aren't particularly fast, but they always bend the line. In comparison, Baker pretty much always gets easily dominated. How can someone with his size be so easy to handle?
It doesn't make sense though. Physically he is the same, if not slightly bigger than Flegler, yet he has no punch in attack or defence. Surely it's a confidence thing, right?
I reckon the current Penrith team are worse. It's funny because I have always hated Melbourne as an organisation, but they have always had players within their team that I enjoyed watching when they were not playing for the Storm.
Now, compare that to Penrith, and I've never disliked them as...
Fletcher Baker is arguably our most influential player. When he plays like crap, we lose, when he plays decent, we scrape out a win, and when he doesn't play, we thrash the opposition.
I don't think he will be gone for too long. I think he is only going to French Rugby for the cash, but will possibly return by the start of the 2026 season to replace the retiring Tedesco. Of course, he will sign with the Roosters for $750k or something well below his market value because of the...
Yeah unfortunately for the Roosters, Collins really bent their cap out of shape. I have it in good authority that the Roosters wanted to only pay him $125K per year, plus a meat pie after each game. However, Collins' manager argued that they were not happy with the deal given that Collins was...
In that case, I see no point in keeping him around. I don't really rate him as a hooker, and his game hasn't improved much over the years. He can't play big minutes, his defence is average, and his passing is inconsistent. I was expecting him to turn into a Damien Cook style hooker, but perhaps...
