I think Jake Clifford would be a decent option. His kicking game would be the closest to what Reynolds provides, and he is approaching the age where halves generally hit their peak. He'd be cheap too.
Halfbacks off contract in 2024: Jake Clifford, Toby Sexton, Dean Hawkins, Brandon Wakeham, Thomas Weaver, Shaun Johnson
Halfbacks off contract in 2025: Jakob Arthur, Tanah Boyd, Kyle Flanagan, Jackson Hastings, Ben Hunt, Drew Hutchison, Lachlan Ilias, Sean O'Sullivan, Jonah Pezet, Adam...
Is Ilias the victim of being in a poor team? Reynolds got significantly better being away from the South Sydney system. Could the same apply to Ilias? He looked significantly better in reserve grade. Would he be able to play the role of a game managing halfback that could steer our team around...
I think Madden would be better suited to be a running five-eighth instead of a game managing halfback. Unfortunately for Madden, we already have Ezra Mam for that.
I think Madden has decent fundamentals, but his long kicking game and organisation is below par for a halfback.
There are really...
Yeah, agree. He was still contracted to us for this year, right?
I feel like Ikin's decisions were more calculated or deliberate,, and had a lot of thought gone into them.
Unfortunately, besides TPJ, there is a shortage of viable options from us to pick from. I can't think of many good players that would provide what we are looking for.
We are also in a position where our starting forward pack at full strength is excellent, and whoever we recruit, needs to accept...
I think he is decent. Pretty strong defender considering his age. He is similar in a way to Payne, where he just goes out and does his job without being too adventurous or risk-averse. Would be a good bench option.
By fringe forwards, I am more referring to Baker, Taupau and Hunt. These three should only be depth forwards being asked to fill in one at a time off the bench in the event that a better player gets injured/suspended. Having more than one in the team at the same time is a concern.
At the...
Even if the likes of Baker, Tapau, Hunt, etc. play horribly, and get exposed weekly, I get the feeling that we will just stick with them anyway. I feel like the only way we will go out and buy a player mid-season if we get an extended injury list and have no one left to fill in.
Sailor in for Walsh is the least disruptive to the rest of the team as well. He isn't as dynamic as Walsh, but he is safe, and still has speed, playmaking ability, and a sneaky kicking game. He will set up a few tries for Mariner off a nice cutout pass or a short banana kick behind the...
I feel like the loss of Palasia has gone a little unnoticed because of some other higher profile players that have also moved on. The quality of our current fringe forwards are weaker than last year, and they are struggling to replace our top forwards.
I like Madden, and I want him to succeed. I think we probably need to stick with him until Reynolds is fully fit. Tonight was not the best night to judge him on, and it was quite unfortunate for him that that the game turned out the way it did.
However, I'm just not convinced he is the...
