I have misgivings about Bennett's return, and I think you'd be foolish not to. Let's not forget:
1. He left for a reason. It wasn't just that he and Bruno hated eachother, Bennett himself was becoming stale. All the criticisms we've had of Griffin (poor selections, poor recruitment, persevering...
BREAKING NEWS: Broncos are set to bring back a number of the players that left during the dark years of Bennett's absence.
Darius Boyd
Karmichael Hunt
Corey Norman
Gerard Beale
And yes, they can all play fullback...The Broncos will be the first team in history to win a premiership with a team...
I have no issue with Hook being sacked for results. I've been saying it for 18 months. But this method - where not even the CEO was aware of it (although nopatience seems to know better) seems wrong. He at least deserved to hear it face to face rather than read it in the paper.
That's why I...
I feel sorry for Griffin. While I don't think he's the right man to coach, it seems this is a really nasty way to get rid of him. And it risks undermining the playing group too. They still respect him.
As for Kearney - just get out.
I have misgivings.
Firstly, I'm fine with Hook and Kearney getting the arse. We've seen no improvement from the Broncos since 2011, so change is required.
However, I'm concerned with the way Bennett seems to have done it in the background with the board and News Limited, completely blindsiding...
Didn't sound like that to me. To me it sounded like he was saying we keep tweaking rules and coaches keep changing tactics to get around them, and it has inadvertent consequences.
He hasn't proposed any solutions, but then, that's kinda the point - we rush solutions for perceived problems...
Especially on the last point. While it seems a cold thing to say, there's no denying McKinnon contributed to the extent of his injury. Obviously not intentionally and no suggestion he was trying to milk a penalty (as some peanuts have suggested on social media) - but if he didn't duck his head...
I too think this was a ridiculously over the top decision. I'm still unclear whether it was a grade 2 (3 weeks) + 4 weeks for injury loading, or grade 1 (1 week) + 6 weeks for injury loading.
Reading some tweets from people who were in the hearing, the tackle was compared to others that had...
Yeah I tend to think injury should only be a consideration in the punishment where it's reckless or intentional. Neither is the case here, and I do think he has a good case to get no suspension at all.
I still wonder if Gee has been quoted out of context, or was prompted. ie, journalist mentions the McCrone comments, that maybe the Raiders are putting the pressure on Milford to change his mind and "how would you respond to that".
Answering purely the injury vs punishment issue, clearly there has to be consideration of whether the actions of the defenders was the sole cause of the injury. In this case I don't think anyone can say that.
As for the tackle itself, I've only managed to watch it once, it's too difficult to...
Reminds me a bit of the Corey Norman thing last year. Constant talk of whether he'd back down on going to Parramatta or not given their dramas.
I think sometimes we give players less credit than they deserve for their integrity.
Why? He signed his deal. He's said nothing since. All we've heard is speculation from others.
We should just assume he's coming. There's been nothing to suggest otherwise.
In no other employment do you sign a multi-year deal without option to terminate the agreement and move jobs as agreed. I think it's ludicrous we have multi-year contracts in an age where moving cities or even countries is not nearly as big a deal as it was even 20 years ago.
I understand...
Haven't been following the whole Milford saga since we signed him. All I've seen is he's playing good footy, which most importantly, is good for the game.
If he ends up not coming and staying at Canberra because he decides that's best for him, good for him.
If he honours his agreement with...
You could probably put him in 17 instead of J Wallace. Hard to find where he "Fits". He's a back rower, essentially, and we've got shitloads of them. Although I do get the feeling Glenn has hit his glass ceiling.
