Rose tinted glasses or FOMO, Herbie has a higher ceiling than both Manu & Staggs for mine.

Look, I don’t intend to start a debate as to who’s the best between Herbie, Manu & Staggs but hypothetically IF all 3 of them becomes available for 2024 to be signed, I would zero in on Herbie for many reasons.

Manu & Staggs at 22 years of age are not as good as they’re now & they’ve their own flaws to date.

I understand that we’re entitled to our perspectives but mine is that we should hold on to Herbie for longer period
Dreaming he’ll never be as good as Manu, wake up

With too many Center options we now have available, it makes me think of the scary possibility i.e, the club is not confident that Herbie will hang around post 2023 hence positioning ourselves with numerous options.

Herbie is a must keep for us for mine & I hope DD, Ikin & the coaching department look after him in a such a way that he doesn’t want to leave us for some shitty false promising club.

Pamper him, cuddle him, feed him & value him as a must keep(I don’t care even if we show him some lenience towards training drills as long he performs week in week out @100%) and so should be signed long term.

Herbie is too smart for that; as I have already said he tells anyone that rings I won't be talking to anyone until the season starts.

The bigger potential issue is Herbie is managed by Nolan. Those might be awkward meetings.

Oh dear! Those are awkward meetings for sure. I am of the impression that he’s managing himself with his uncle’s aid.

How is the new cap going to affect the squad? Everybody just gets a payrise or do we have some space to sign somebody new?

I'm assuming at least a component of the new salary cap rise is reinstating the 6% reduction from covid, which affects every player??

Also I'm assuming min wage contracts get an automatic upgrade.

Given the cap changes that were announced today, does this mean we can keep Herbie now? Just pay him what he wants and guarantee backup fullback for when Walsh is unavailable.

If he had an actual proven track record at FB probably .
But that is not the case . He hasn`t even played a trial match at FB .

I mean his only competition for back up fullback are guys who have proven track records of being shit at fullback so he may get that just by process of elimination

When I saw Selwyn play FB for Wynnum he was far from shit .
MVP , MoM etc .

Yeah he has a lot of potential but he has really struggled to pull it off at first grade and even in Q Cup he had a lot of poor errors. He’s definitely a superstar fullback of the future if he works on it.

I think we really could see a potential spine post Reynolds of

9. Mozer
7. Mam
6. Walsh
1. Cobbo

If we develop them properly

I have said it before Kotoni contributed to a lot of those errors with bad positioning and poor service .
Although Selwyn`s .hands did look clumsy on the ground in the wet .

I don`t know what has happened ? My 1st impression of Selwyn was seeing him scoop a ball up off the ground while moving at pace . I thought then ; this kid is some thing special . Balance to be able to scoop a ball off the ground while running is a rare gift .

I will be surprised if Reynolds sees out this season before retiring .

I meant specifically at fullback but yea he definitely struggled at times on the wing too - especially after origin. Worrying to see him take a game off and then show up overweight to this off season

He played minimal minutes at FB .
Not a big enough sample for me to judge his FB game over all .

Head knocks can change a person`s personality and motivation if severe enough . The harden up and get on with it culture should be condemned .

Steve Mortimer and Mario Fenech are sad examples .

All this talk about 14s and 9s I've been catching up on (what a slog, seriously guys, obsessed) - I'd love to see tesi come on as a 14. He can cover backs too as a bonus, but he's zippy with nice a nice passing game. He should turn himself into a utility like Peachy or Nikorima. Keep him away from having to be shit defending the line as a fullback. Plus the bonus of playing around the 9 position means he'll no longer be afraid of making tackles.

You obviously skipped a few chapters during your catch up - this has been suggested and shot down previously. His dummy half passing is poor and even his general play passing is poor - yes we’ve all seen the 2 or 3 good passes he has done in 4 seasons.

For me playing 14 or 9, the bare minimum should be the ability to tackle effectively, forget all the fancy shit, if you can't tackle you won't make it.

I know there are a select few who would give any bloke that wasn't named Billy Walters a crack at the jersey but yeah, you have to be able to tackle. I am fully aware he missed a lot of tackles himself but he is the best we've got (and so the roundabout continues).
