I remember the mood here back in 1999 when Alfie announced his retiring, we were struggling sitting last in round 10 with confidence shatter both within the team and the forum here. We leaked something like 233 points alone in the opening ten rounds, compare that to the next 11 games where they conceded only 76. Webcke said the team and Bennett got together and said it stops now. We showed a lot of grit and character to make the finals from there but by the time we got to the qualifying final against the Sharks we were just out of petrol. Plenty of the talent you would see coming in the following years made their debut some would made it big and some would have solid careers. Ben Walker(had made his debut around sametime as Lockyer though) in particular had a blinder in the halves for us that season and a lot predicted he was going to kick on. He didn't at the Broncos and had a solid career elsewhere.
