Q-CUP 2026 Queensland Cup Discussion

Two weeks today until Meninga starts and Cyril is next weekend.

Bears must watch again, with Verhoeven and Francis having break out seasons. I want them playing Cup but that Bears side is going to be hard work to break in to.

Verhoeven's 11 tries in 10 games was outstanding from his two tries in game one against Ipswich to his last game winning the Bears their first Meninga title. Thought his NRLQ form was so so but his Meninga and School form was great.

Francis debuts in the prelim after leading the Bears Cyril to the premiership and scoring two tries in that Grand Final and then tears it up for two games and makes the big play in the Meninga Grand Final in extra time playing up a grade. Didn't miss a tackle in his first two Meninga games up against Ford and Starr who were the two best front rowers and an undefeated Tweed and walks away with a second premiership for 25.

Both have finished school now and free of that distraction can get down to what matters. I will be disappointed if they haven't played NRL within 18 months.

One of the most exciting junior prospects out of the Sunshine Coast, looks like he saw a better pathway at Penrith.

That has to be concerning for Melbourne.

It's one to keep an eye on. Over the past couple of decades, when Melbourne got their hands on a quality prospect they'd retain them through the bulk of their junior development. Birve was barely at the start and has seemingly left them for greener pastures.
