TV bosses are facing a blokey dilemma: stick with Friday night football or sideline it for Prince William and Kate Middleton's wedding.

With the April 29 royal nuptials confirmed for 11am London time, or 8pm here, the historic telecast is likely to force the reshuffle of both the AFL and NRL, reported the Herald Sun.

All networks are set to air the service from Westminster Abbey, with consolidated audience figures poised to make it the most watched event in Australian TV history.

But the clash with football codes will test the commitment of Channels 9 and 7, which are both slated to broadcast up to three matches on the same night.

I hope they put it on. And it tanks in the ratings.

Simple solution. Put the rubbish wedding on Gem or 7 two.

I don't care. I get the day off.

Thanks Wills 'n' Kate!

Let Foxtel broadcast it. it should be on there anyway, then we wouldn't have to worry about such nonsense.

Hard to believe Pommy 'royalty' is still considered even remotely relevant in 2011. Give it to Fox and put it on CBeebies.

Once again media reporting half the story. It't not that the footy won't be shown at all. The networks will show both the wedding and the footy - the decision they have to make is which one will be on the main channel and which one will be shuffled off to one of their other digital channels.

What I don't get is why ALL the networks have to show the bloody wedding. Surely only one of them needs to show it - people who want to watch the wedding can all watch it there and the rest of us who don't care about it can watch other things.

^^^ This!!! Irrelevant crap like this should be shown where it belongs - SBS.

As far as I'm concerned, it shouldn't be worth more than a mention on the news. Hate this attachment to the British crown. [icon_non

Meh, it's in our constitution, and will and should remain that way for the foreseeable future IMO.

However, I don't quite understand the love for the royal family...nor do I understand the hatred some show.

No hatred from me, I pretty much ignore their existence.
I know they're pretty much only for show nowadays, but anyone in a position of responsability needs to earn it, not be born into it IMO, hence my dislike of Monarchy.

Yeah fair enough. In reality they have little real power so I'm not bothered by them. They're just a rich family of pseudo celebs.

Ignoring their existence is the right approach IMO. But some people speak very harshly about them, which I don't think is called for.

I'm pretty blase about the Royal Family myself.

But I don't get this facination that some people seem to have. Why do Royal Weddings get broadcast around the world anyway? If (when) we do become a Republic and have our own Head of State - will the wedding of their kids/grandkids be televised? Would we have a public holiday for it (as the UK are getting for this wedding)? Are the weddings of other celebrities (real, fake or wannabe ones) telecast around the world? I simply don't understand it. [icon_shru

But each to their own I guess - as long as they aren't huring anyone or interrupting other people's enjoyment of the footy - oh wait [icon_razz1 .

right now, im at work, earning them money, while they galavant around on tv and in newidea doing who the **** cares.

thats why I hate the monarchy.

How on earth are you earning them money? Australian govt doesn't pay them a cent.

Isn't it in the Channel 9 contract with the NRL, that Channel 9 have to show one Friday Night game live.

Yes, but Channel 9's contract with the Queen says bend over and take Prince William up the backside.

Hopefully they'll stick the footy on GEM so it's in HD. 8-)

Hopefully they break up so the Royal Wedding isn't an issue.
