Thought I would get the ball rolling here!
Saw the Roar v Mariners at Perry park this afternoon in front of a decent crowd considering we are out of the pre season comp. We were rubbish in the first half we constantly looked short at the back and were 2-0 down, it seems that when Van Dijk, Smits and Miller are all on none of them go back to help out and it really showed in the first half with the Mariners always having men open on the break. Half time Zullo and Murdocca came in and they reverted to just Van Dijk up front with Miller, Zullo, McKay supporting and we were much better (despite Moore being sent off for a silly two footed tackle) Zullo got one back after an hour or so and despite being down a man we were the better team by some margin in the second half. Hopefully Farina learnt that against good sides like the Mariners you cannot give them to much space going forward like in the first half and that he will deploy a 4-1-3-1 formation similar to last year. Having both Seo and Tiatto as wide backs rather than having one of them as the holding midfielder didn't help either as Dodd the guy in the hole made some very poor decisions in both his defending and with the ball.
