The most powerful voice in Australia is poised to become the powerbroker of rugby league. Broadcaster Alan Jones is set to join league's new independent commission after winning overwhelming support from every NSW NRL club.
The move would instantly deliver the new board and rugby league connections to the most powerful figures in politics, business and sport.

At least it's better than having John Howard there.

I could think of somebody worse then Howard, Rudd, although he would never be there so maybe it wouldnt be a problem eusa_think

I thought Jones was a union turd?? [icon_shru

Ugh... Jones is a puffed up arrogant egomaniac. He does have experience as a coach but I reckon he'd have too much of the old boys club connections going.

beads: Jones coached Balmain. Back in the 1990s and he coached them like a union team.

I thought he was one of Souths "top ticket" holders - or well he was certainly one of the very public people leading the charge for their reinstatement back in the day. All I'm saying is - well, that's hardly independant.

Going to have a hard time finding people interested in league enough to be on the commission, but not have an interest in a particular club

Gillard or Bligh would be worse.

Howard ran a country. He might have upset a few people but history will judge him more than favorably. I'm certain he could manage a position on a sports committee....

Would be great IMO. The only reason he got quashed was because Albanese started a push against him. Petty stuff.

He ran the country brilliantly. Look at what a shamozzle Giltard and Krudd have done!

Howard would be an excellent figurehead for the IC, even with his Dragons bias.

Agree with the sentiments that if you can run a country, you can run a commission.

I didn't like Howard in office but this isn't about politics and I can see how he would be a benefit.

I don't really mind who gets it to be honest, as long as they have a good profile, experience in running complicated shit and have a passion for sport.
