I didn't enjoy it last season, hence not bothering to buy a ticket this season. The concept is flawed in that really it's setup that the indigenous team HAS to win. It's a bit like those old cricket tribute matches - like the Allan Border tribute match - you know the tributee's team has to win!

But unlike those games, the All Star NRL game is treated semi-seriously.

I certainly object to any mention of this game as a "representative" game. It's not. It's an exhibition and should always be treated as such.

Good points Coxy but I enjoy it as an exhibition game - it's nice to just celebrate the game for what it is. I just wish they better job of advertising it or balancing it.

Yes, you all make good points and I definitely agree with your view Coxy, but I actually did enjoy the game last year and will be there this time again.

Other competitions have started as a semi exhibition and became serious tests. Origin even became the pinnacle of Rugby League! [icon_wink

I don't know if they'll ever tap into the same emotion that Origin did...and if they do it could be pretty dangerous, especially if the All-Stars fans become passionate.

Otherwise, it's a fun exhibition match.

Id hate to see it become a passionate game. a game based on race. that would not be good. Its fine like it is now, as a celebration. Just I want not so many Broncos playing in the game :P

Last year was so s**t - Lockyer copping an injury and Yow Yeh being forced to play on an injured knee which basically f**ked him over for a season.

As Big Pete said, the worst thing that could happen would be for this to become a huge deal and a game people take seriously.

I remember last year as we were leaving being bombarded with people saying "who's sorry now, huh?". Like, WTF?!?

Unfortunately, as well intentioned as the concept is, there are going to be dickheads that apply the wrong meaning to it which actually inspires more of a racism gap than promote reconciliation.

B-I-N-G-O. I mean fark, they've set up 2 teams based purely on RACE. Aboriginals Vs White Australians. Imagine if the USA had a "Africian Americans Vs White Americans" NFL match? There would be uproar.

Well not quite, it's Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islanders vs Everybody Else

So it'd be like African Americans vs Everybody Else, or more accurately, Native Americans vs Everybody Else...which would be a struggle because I reckon there'd be bugger all native americans who play NFL :P

Jeez, I'm amazed what this topic turned into... Way to steer off it's original purpose.

I think you guys are making a storm in a cup of water, and I'm generally at the front of any anti racism protest.
This game's purpose is not to divide, but to unite. And like any other sporting contest, it will create bragging rights and banter, but it's us (public) and the NRL who need to make sure it doesn't turn into anything else but an healthy rivalry.

For that to happen, the first thing that has to stop is the "let them win" BS.
