The Knights have told Boyd that if he wants to leave (to join Brisbane) then he does so without any payout (of his 600k contract), but they also said they are happy for him to see out the final year of his contract.

I wonder if that will have a bearing on the possibility of him coming here. It could be a positive - in that he goes somewhere else that's willing to pay his full asking price. Or it could be a negative - in that Bennett is still hell-bent on him being here and we are forced to pay top dollar. I do believe that now that this particular element is now sorted (compensation from the Knights) his decision will be made sooner rather than later.

Re: Wayne Bennett related player movement discussion

fair enough, why would he be entitled to a payout,

the bloke says he wants to leave/pulls the trigger on a get out clause and the club has obliged.

he should do the right thing and stay at the knights

I'm sorry, let's not be hypocrites here, we were all bagging the Raiders for not upholding a release clause but Boyd should do the "right" thing and stay? If he has a clause he should be allowed to be leave, that's the whole point of those things.

The Broncos can also count Kiwi Test full-back Josh Hoffman, 2012 Dally M medallist Ben Barba, rising star Anthony Milford and English Super League recruit Greg Eden as full-back options, but Bennett was adamant Boyd would be custodian if he returned.

"They all bring different things but Darius is the best of them all," he said.

Re: Wayne Bennett related player movement discussion

Exactly why i thought Barba would be expendable.

Hunt Milford Boyd

Second choice
Hunt Milford Hoffman

Barba might play for Ipswich at 5/8 or fullback

Exactly what i feared would happen.

please tell me again how Bennett doesn't play favourites

How is that playing favourites?
Milford will play 5/8 and Boyd is clearly better than the rest of them.

I also like the way he let Hoffman know exactly where he sits at the club. No fucking about with him, now it is up to Hoffman if he wants to play on the wing or leave

Re: Wayne Bennett related player movement discussion

I wonder if we could see Barba in the centres now? Not ideal.

Boyd was poor for 90% if the games he played for the Knights this year (now lets hear everyone excuse his performances), yet never got dropped ... that is the bloody definition of playing favourites.

Milford should be the fullback, it is his best position at this stage of his career.

Boyd if he signs, should play where he scores all his masses of rep tries ... THE WING.

but hey I shouldn't speak out about Bennett ... he is our saviour after all, and never makes wrong decisions.

It's playing favourites by signing Boyd. We don't need another fullback.

Milford is a great attacking fullback who cant defend, Hoffman can defend but cant pass or kick. barba is, well ..umm .anyway the point is Boyd is the most complete fullback on our list, should he sign of course.

Re: Wayne Bennett related player movement discussion

Not this debate again :(

I'll just say this, I think Wayne has been around long enough to know who the best players are in each position on his roster, he may slightly favour Darius because of their long history, that's fair enough, he's won premierships with Darius playing for him.

As much as I would be very disappointed to see Barba on the outers because of Darius returning, I trust Bennett's decision making ability, let's just hope it all works itself out.

(p.s - If Barba isn't playing Five-Eighth for us, he's not in the first grade squad, as much as I like him, he's not up to first grade standard in any other position, and I wouldn't waste a bench spot on him.)

Re: Wayne Bennett related player movement discussion

Well, Bennett is just confirming what a lot of us already knew.

By signing with us, we're effectively signing Darius Boyd.

Furthermore, Boyd will be pushed straight into the fullback position.

There were plenty of denials over it and I suppose the only consolation for some is to get their 'I told you sos' in.

The question will be whether or not this time off has done Boyd the world of good and whether being home will bring out his best week in and week out? When he was at his best this year, he managed to out-play Jarryd Hayne.

WTF are you on about? Boyd clearly better? **** off he is. Boyd had an absolute shit year, while milford continue his hot form from last year while playing at fullback, in a horrible team. If you think boyd is better than milford atm you are crazy.

I for one will sit back and let the results tell us the story. I'm not going to argue with the guy who has delivered us 6 premierships on his first stint as coach. And seriously, anyone going off Boyds form this year at Newcastle just cant be judging him purely off one season where he didn't get paid half of his contract for a good period. If anyone of you were sitting at work and you weren't getting paid, would you be putting in 100%. I wouldn't. A Boyd type fullback fits into Bennetts structure for what he brings to his kind of team. Simple as that really.
