MELBOURNE face a record $50,000 fine for the extraordinary attack by coach Craig Bellamy and chief executive Brian Waldron on the integrity of the game and its judiciary after the preliminary final victory against Cronulla on Friday night.

Bellamy's comments that judiciary officials had been unduly influenced by the media, that the result of the hearing was somehow pre-determined and that other parties were somehow aware of this, made with the “100 per cent support†of Waldron, amounted to an unprecedented, irrational and defamatory attack on the integrity of the judiciary panel and the game’s judiciary processes, NRL chief executive David Gallop said on Saturday

$50 large is well worth that stupid interview. He will learn to do the WB trick...No Comment.

In saying all that; Bellamy, whilst incorrect in this particular circumstance, raises the issue that I have raised all year. The media, especially Channel 9, have a MASSIVE influence on the game through media. The recent Broncos allegations is evident enough of this. The Hodges commentry during the Parramatta game is another shocking example.

When the SBWgate started, it was all that could be read in any NSW or QLD paper/radio/sports show. Before SBWgate was the kicks on 5th. Whatever these monkeys decide to pick on, gets dragged through mud for weeks until some other "scandal" begins.

Whilst I believe in free speech, etc., this section of the media is without a shadow of a doubt, the most damaging thing the NRL faces at the moment.

I have no doubt; everything from judiciary decisions, to who gets charged each week through to rep selections are massivly influenced by the media.

I don't know if anyone saw the interview with Gallop on that same link.. but he gets asked the question "what are your thoughts in regards to Waldron questioning the game's leadership?"

And Gallop responds with "well here's some leadership for Brian, it's in the form of a $50k fine" (b*tch!).

I just watched the whole interview, I thought it was hilarious how Bellamy was going on about how far the bets were spread for a 2 horse race (with the Smith guilty/not guilty bets), and then someone brings up how Melbourne were $1 something and Warriors like $5 just a couple of weeks ago haha.
