The result from a poll on the Courier Mail, obviously with some Broncos and Qld bias, but I can't really disagree with it either...

Best overal player: Darren Lockyer
FB - Billy Slater
W- Brett Morris (only NSW)
C- Greg Inglis
5/8- Darren Lockyer
HB- Jonathan Thurston
Hk- Cameron Smith
2R- Sam Thaiday
FR- Petero Civoniceva
Lk- Corey Parker

Wow, really disagree with the parker selection. Lewis or Gallen should be there IMO. Actually, didnt myles play a lot of the season at lock? if so id have him there

Inglis probably shouldn't be at center either.

Is it the best player overall this year or?

If so, Myles is still ahead of Parker. Gallen would be close to it too.

+1

Frankly, Parker plays as a second rower, wide running on the fringe, whereas Myles is more of an out and out lock - middle third player, an extra prop that plays more minutes basically.

And I would almost have Shillington as the number 1 prop this year.

True. Who has been the best centre... no-one really springs to mind as being the most dominant centre this year

My Bronco bias does not permit me to post any further in this thread

Parker has been Mr Reliability this season, plays 80 minutes, leads in tackle counts and hit-ups, has imensly improved his offloads and his kicking has gone to another level too.
I'm not saying that Gallen or Myles aren't in the same ballpark, but they can't kick.
The only player I would consider better in the lock position is Lewis IMO.

Upon reflection, as centre this season, Folau and Jamie Lyon are probably more deserving than Inglis, who probably got it based or reputation.

gallen dominates parker in hitups, but i can see your argument, while i dont agree with it.

Parker has got what, 4 or 5 MOM awards this year? He's been fantastic and at club level I definitely think the result is a fair one. Gallen and Myles are definitely up there and probably could have won it as well but I think Parker deserves it, his kicking game is also a bonus and even though it doesn't affect his position it is a bonus that the other locks don't have.

I wouldn't say he's the most consistent though. He's a machine, and just amazing to watch when he's playing well. But more often than not, he's useless out there.

Best overal player: Billy Slater

W- Akuila Uate
C- Willie Tonga
5/8- Darren Lockyer

I dunno, he's gotten that element out of his game over the last little while imo. Nowhere near as erratic as he used to be, and doesn't drop the bombs that you and I could catch so much anymore.

He's actually extremely consistent these days.
Unfortunately missed a few games early in the season due to injury, but is right on par with Morris statistically, and ahead on offloads and tries per game.
Manu's "extra" value lies in his prop-like hit ups, which regularly save our asses when we got trapped in our own 20, and get us on an attacking roll.

If it is for this year then defs Tonga > GI.

Also - disagree with Parker decision. I think a lot of play breaks down when the ball gets to Parker... he doesn't seem to be on the same page sometimes.

I think that is because he began as a prop, he just has a natural tendency to hit it up and think about the pass/offload second.

Well... it's more when he does the swivel move and there is a real chance for the 2nd phase or one more ball and more often than not the chance is created yet he just kills the play. Sometimes he does offload but I think there are definitely more chances there in my eyes. Sometimes understandable because you don't want to chuck a MATEO but sometimes he would do this when we're 8 or so up and in decent position... me no understanding.

Second of all when he doesn't do the swivel move he'll get the ball in a classic "lock" position where he can link up with a centre or back on the inside perhaps (well before the line) but he goes down with the ball by running it into the defensive line... me no understanding.

I MAY be being harsh - No doubt killing it for the Broncs but those two plays irk me a bit I'll admit that. My initial argument is that surely he can't be the best 13 in the game - obviously some Bronco bias in the poll there.
