BHQ Picks the Broncos team: CENTRES

Well, BHQ has their fullback, and now it's time to pick the 3 and the 4. I thought I would do centres first so that when we pick the wingers we can work out combinations that might work with the speed men outside the centres.

The Broncos have suffered a blow in this position with the departure of Israel Folau to AFL, and the dogging by Greg Inglis, but have been boosted by the return of Justin Hodges from injury. Or will the >12 months off sway the voters to someone with a bit more match fitness? Doubtful, but the other centre position should be a hot contest with plenty of contenders.

I went with Beale and Hodges, Hodges picks himself because his a player we need to get back into the backline, his experience and potential to be a real damaging weapon(as long as he can get over the injury that held him back last season) for us makes him an automatic selection.

As for Gerard Beale it was hard but from all reports his been working very hard during the offseason and he has the potential in attack to be that danger weapon we need, defensively he will need to improve but thats what the offseason's for, Copley would be my next in line should Beale fail to live upto expectations. To be honest I think there are a lot of choices here that have cases for and against so this will be one thats hotly contested.

I do NOT want a rebadged back rower in the centres. It DOES NOT work.

I'd go Hodges and Copley.

Hodges is a no-brainer, he brings leadership and an element to the side no other player can bring.

Copley seems like the most reliable centre we have, well balanced runner who runs the right lines and has the defensive fundlementals down pat.

I do expect to see Beale given the first go based off of the reports, but in the long run Copley will sow up the jersey based on what I've seen.

I'd prefer Hodges and Copley, but I think it will be Hodges and Beale by all reports. And if Beale is indeed doing as well as they say, it's only faIr if he's the bolter this season.

While I'm on the Copley bandwagon, I certainly wouldn't be upset if Beale or Reed got the nod. As long as it's a young player given a chance to have an extended stint in the position, and not an out of position back rower, I'll be happy.

Hodges and Copely

Copely is the specialist centre we need - he has good defence and was one of the stars in Under 20's until injuries.
Beale is another strong candidate, but is not a specialist. If we keep sending in stop gap options, we will not create a long term backline that will gel. Hodges only has a short time left so we need to lock in a long term left combination so the team can get used to their strengths

I've gone for Copley. He really showed some ability early last season against the Dragons. I think he should be given first shot at the position.

Hodges is the obvious, but I've gone with Gagai as his partner. Might not start the season but I definitely think he will finish somewhere in the three quarter line, and with Hoffman having the number 1 nailed down, I think the centres are his go.

He was outstanding at the back end of last year and was dominant for the Australian underage team.

This kid is the most talented outside back we have coming through by a fair margin IMO.
