QUEENSLAND rugby league fans face a Friday night television blackout, with the Broncos, Titans and Cowboys failing to feature in the latest double-header match schedules.
And the situation could get worse unless the Broncos lift their game, with the once powerful club now at the bottom of the NRL ladder with no signs things are about to improve.
If the Broncos remain anchored at the foot of the table, they could lose their appeal on free-to-air television, although Channel 9's head of sport Steve Crawley was confident their popularity would not wane in Queensland.
Queensland teams have featured in every Channel 9 Friday night double-header in the first four rounds of the premiership, and there will be Queensland content right up to the Friday night trans-Tasman Test in Melbourne on May 7.
The following week, in round 10, the Broncos and Titans will be part of the Friday night fare, and then in round 11 all three Queensland clubs have a bye.
But in rounds 12 and 13 the Friday night double-headers will not have any Queensland content, with Sydney clubs dominating.
"My understanding is that, where possible, Channel 9 would televise a live game into Queensland on Friday night and the station would always try to ensure there was heavy Queensland content," Broncos chief executive, Bruno Cullen said yesterday.

I thought that nine had to have at least 1 QLD team play on Friday nights as part of their deal with the NRL since the started the double headers on Fridays. not that it was just prefered to have a QLD team play on Fridays eusa_think
