Blake Green linked with move to Brisbane Broncos
to solve playmaking crisis

Blake Green is reportedly being considered for a short-term deal at the Brisbane Broncos to solve the club's shortage of playmakers. Despite having a year to run on his current deal with the Warriors, the NRL journeyman is believed to be favouring a move home to Australia to see out his career.

It comes as Sporting News' The Lurker revealed Green had met Broncos coach Anthony Seibold to explore the club's Red Hill facilities, with the Warriors happy to release the well-traveled number seven given the emergence of young halfback Chanel Harris-Tevita. After their struggles in attack in 2019, the Broncos have long been tipped to explore their options in the player market this off-season to provide support for young halves Tom Dearden and Sean O'Sullivan.

The club were strongly linked to a move for Melbourne Storm number seven Brodie Croft, after coach Anthony Seibold was spotted meeting with the young halfback in Sydney back in October. However, despite Croft seemingly being out-of-favour with Craig Bellamy, after he was left out of the Storm's run home to the finals this season, the club have spoken publically about their plans to retain him. And according to The Daily Telegraph's Dean Ritchie, the Broncos are now rumoured to be considering a short-term deal for Green for next season.

"The mail out there and the speculation continues is that they're having a sneaky peak at Blake Green," Ritchie told Sky Sports Racing's Big Sports Breakfast. "He's 33, they don't have a half, it'd be a one-year deal obviously just at the end of the contract for Green. He's still got one year to go at the Warriors, but just a suggestion around town that he might just be a fill in... until they can establish their halves up there. "I don't think personally it will happen but certainly there is some mail around town that Blake Green may be interested in one finale with the Broncos."

Given the Broncos woes with the Steeden in hand in 2019, and with the club's young playmakers still finding their feet at NRL level, the acquisition of Green makes sense for Seibold's side. And premiership-winning great Laurie Daley endorsed the move for the 33-year-old, given his experience.

"They need someone that's going to give them direction and help out young Tom Dearden," Daley told Big Sports Breakfast. "Dearden can't do it all on his own, they tried Milford last year, and Darius Boyd, that didn't work. Obviously Milford they believe will be a fullback so they need someone in that halves position for one-year. "If they got him for a reasonable price, he'd be a decent pick-up."

Reminds me of 2013, where we got a 33 year old Scott Prince. I still think Dearden could use a year in QLD cup, so I dont mind. Better long term for his growing body too.

Phew it's only Ritchie

Somehow we don't have enough cash for Croft at $400k, but then have enough cash for Green at $600k.

😒😒😒

I think the idea is for him to be released from the warriors and signed cheap at Brisbane.still hoping melbourne blink first and make a deal with croft.

Have any of these "experts" realised that we struggled at halfback because Dearden was injured? He may be young and inexperienced, but didn't look out of his depth. It would be different if we'd struggled all year with him at halfback the entire time.

I’ve said it before but I’d take Green over Croft any day. I’m holding out hope that we won’t be seeing Macca and Boyd in the side in round 1 so Green’s inclusion would provide some much needed experience

Anything on sportingnews is automatically baseless. Those quotes from Ritchie are meaningless

How did Seibold take him on a tour of the facilities as has been reported when he has been in America? The only known meeting they actually had was In Sydney was it not and Seibold straight up reported that one himself and said it was a meeting as old friends and nothing club related.

I think the Scott Prince signing would have worked out better had we just put Ben Hunt in at halfback to begin with instead of ruining his development using him as a hooker.

He had two very good halves he could have played next to and learned a lot from (Locky, Prince) but instead Griffin used him as a hooker.

In 2013, Prince wasn't the player he was a few years prior but all of those things that made him a gun half, you don't forget all that. His body just caught up to him.

Because we have no money.

I think you will find over the next month or 2, Winslow, that we will have quite a bit of coinage up our sleeve to splash on a good player or 2

Hang in there and all will be revealed 😉
