NEWS Boyd, Macca and Bird to reignite against the Capras

Boyd, Macca and a recovering Jack Bird will be named in a Broncos side to face the Central Queensland Capras at Browne Park next Saturday. Boyd will start at left centre, Bird at fullback and Macca at hooker. Joe Ofahengaue, Tevita Pangai Jr and Pat Carrigan will join them.

“Darius will play centre in the trial. He will play about 20 minutes and Jack will play some time at fullback, it will only be minimal but it will be good to see him back on the park. Birdy has done some reps at centre and fullback during the pre-season. We do have some depth in the outside backs, so everyone will get ample opportunity to stake a claim during the trials.”

“It’s important we do justice to these trials. Sometimes you see trials in regional areas and clubs don’t send their NRL stars but I want the local people of Rockhampton to see guys like Darius and Andrew McCullough. We are conscious not to give the senior guys too much time but it will be good to give them a small hitout and promote rugby league in the region.”

Badel expects to see Macca in the ISC come Round One.

Maybe he's an evil genius and he's playing the percentages which we already know he likes to. There's more chance of them sustaining an injury in the trials if they are playing than if they were not. This has Demas Wong's fingerprint's all over it.

lol yeah, watch Seibold play them every minute of every trial, send them to the 9s, and give then a couple runs in the local oz tag comp before round 1.

You're reading too much into it. It's leadership 101. Take care of your people and they take care of you.

Its the first trial. Anyone playing in it are players the coach sees as perhaps needing more game time to evaluate. The 2nd and 3rd trials are usually key. That first trial, there is always a bit o experimentation. Some senior players aren't game ready for it. Sometimes there is a hotshot junior who needs a bit more of a look. Sometimes like Bird, there are options for positions that need to be looked at.
Like the Nines, these are early days.
