Knights coach, Brain Smith is catching on...
A couple of years ago on the old site, a guy called Strapping Big Lad wrote about how the names of positions and the associated roles should be changed because the game had evolved beyond the traditional roles.
SBL, a guy who seemed to be pretty switched on, mentioned how modern players attack and defend in a variety of positions, depending on where the play was situated. Calling a guy a fullback or a second rower etc seemed to not paint a very clear picture of the current player's role within the team. In a game that has had many changes, it seemed odd that the names of positions, as outdated as they are, was overlooked in the modernisation of the game.
Smith recently wrote recently about precisely what SBL mentioned some time ago. It was almost as though Smith thoughthewas being a revolutionary.
Readers of SBL's work, and I know there are numerous, would beg to differ.
