Brian Smith and the Sydney Roosters have parted ways one year before the coach's contract was due to end.

The Roosters released a statement today revealing that the club and Smith had come to a mutual agreement which will see Smith leave his role as head coach immediately.

Smith had coached the Roosters since 2010 after previously coaching Newcastle and Parramatta.

Smith's reputation as a fixer is bit of a myth IMO.

How many coaches have been able to take a Smith side to a premiership straight away? The answer: 0. Why? Because nobody can get anything out of useless gimps like Wagon, Ciraldo, Karawana, Tolar, Nuuausala etc. that Smith seems to infatuate himself with. He does well with them too, turning trash into treasure or so to speak but come finals they're always going to be exposed for what they are.

I don't think he ever got the best out of his star players long term. Might squeeze a season out of them (eg. Carney, Tim Smith) but eventually they lose faith in him.

Roosters actually have a good young side though. But it's difficult to credit that to Smith when O'Sullivan has basically signed basically every talented Qld player he can get his hands on. Unless they're a Rugby junior of course.

this happened 12 months too late. the roosters will go well with a good coach who pulls them into line. smith was well past it.

id rather keep pearce than keep smith.
