Bright future for young Bronco Su'A

Could he/Does he need to be turned into a center? Is he quick enough? He's got everything else.

I remember his NYC debut.

I had been sick all week with the flu and it just so happened to be the hottest Autumn day I can remember. Still, I was amped for the start of the season and couldn't wait to see what the club would be like under Wayne.

So I get there before the gates are opened and I'm expecting to see the likes of Taylor, Nikorima, Ofahengaue, Arrow etc. to tear up. I was excited to see Su'A since I had read so much about him, but I wasn't expecting big things.

I thought he was one of the best players on the park.

His foot-work, acceleration, ability to offload and the odd big-hit made me an instant fan. I don't like to jump on new faces too early since it can just bite you in the arse (thanks a lot Roberts) but even then I thought Su'A was a can't miss.

Stuff happens, Su'A ends up missing half the season due to some arrangement with Churchie and GPS Rugby so the hype sort of died down. By the time he came back, all of the good Broncos players were injured and Brisbane were getting blown off the park every week. I was at the Melbourne Storm game where Nicholl-Klokstead absolutely slayed us. Jaydn was playing centre that game and just wasn't the same player he had been earlier in the season. Obviously the break had hurt him, and he just didn't have the players around him to ease him into it. I thought maybe we wouldn't see him until 2017.

Then I saw the Bundaberg Trial and the guy just looked like a first grader. I thought the pre-season had a few bolters for Brisbane - Arrow, Timu, Eden, Opacic but Su'A was the big surprise of the lot for me. He went from somebody who may get a look in pending on Origin to a guy that should be starting.

Wayne thought the same way as well, but he took it a step further. I didn't expect Su'A to play 80 minutes, but he did so, twice and seemingly got better as each game wore on. It's still clear that at times he's only 18 and he's making poor decisions with his defence (eg. shoulder charging Reynolds a few minutes in, instead of wrapping him up) but he's shown plenty of heart as well.

It used to bug me when people would ask if some NYC flavour of the month could play Origin. How would I know? But when it comes to Su'A, he'll play for Queensland for sure. It's like Jack Bird, there's just some players you know will be stars at that level.

Fortunately Brisbane are lucky to have one.

Unfortunately for the NYC side, he's so good he's playing NRL at the moment. The NYC side is built around his work on the left-edge, without him, they often look rudderless.

He is very similar to Glenn when he was at the Bears and NYC. Good timing and versatility- Glenn played in the centres for Bears as well. Su'A is a bit more natural footballer than Glenn but Glenn changed with his body having to change and fill another role. Glenn had great footwork too and was a very good touch player.

Su'A is a bit more 'reckless' in defence than Glenn was also.

That Churchie side was undefeated in 2014 and a very good school boy rugby side. Su'A played inside centre and did a great job developing his skills.

He played in 2015 for that school too and they won again i was told this morning. Saw in paper about Broncs signing him from rugby. However what is a young Logan Brothers junior doing going to Churchie lol. I would say Rugby found him while playing league.

Would it be the silliest thing for the Broncos to turn either Glen or Su'a back into a centre or have they lost too much speed to do that?

I think Sua would be the best bet and i was surprised he didnt play centre on weekend. Maybe his age and experience was a factor. When he did get the ball once out a bit wider noticed he did beat the Melb centre. He is strong with good footwork and obviuosly played centre in union so must have some speed.

im not sure playing su'a at centre is a good idea. he can get beat laterally and centre is a lot harder than back row defensively.
if you put a quick man on him 1 on 1 i think he will struggle especially with our lack of quality wing options out side of oates.

BUT, Su'A and Oates might be worth a gamble. They might not do so well for the first couple of weeks but might just come good come finals time, if not, Reed isn't going to be anywhere else is he and bringing him back in rested and fresh for the finals is not that bad an idea is it?

If we can from this point remain injury free, we have a few players who should be nice and fresh at the back end... Just need a bit of form now...

glenn is the best of the options between him and su'a for centre

Only problem is Glenn will play centre like a second rower, to late to make him a centre imo

He was a centre and they turned him into a backrower

Yea, just cant see him effectively going back to that position at this stage of his career.

Care to elaborate mate?

i just think that glenn in the centres is only a very short term thing. im not sure wayne will persist with it, unless we cant find anyother solutions.

Su'A named for Queensland Under 20.

Brimson and Shibasaki the other two.
