Broncos coach insists Milford best at No.1

Anthony Milford will return from injury and play fullback against the Warriors.
Milford will return to the Broncos line-up for Saturday's clash with the Warriors at Suncorp Stadium after missing last weekend's win over Cronulla due to a knee injury.
The ex-Queensland State of Origin player suffered the MCL strain in his first match in the Broncos' No.1 jersey against Newcastle in round 15.
Seibold says the importance of a running fullback who can create havoc for defensive lines had been shown during the State of Origin series where NSW custodian James Tedesco was the player of the series.
He's not saying Milford is comparable to Tedesco but Seibold firmly believes the Samoan international's skills are ideal for a modern fullback.
"Milf's speed and footwork can ask some questions of middle forwards, so I think we'll have a good look at that and I think that's the way to go," he said.
Milford's switch means Broncos captain Darius Boyd will start again at five-eighth in another positional change which has created plenty of discussion.
Boyd's first game in the No.6 against the Knights was a write-off when Richard Kennar's dislocated shoulder forced a backline reshuffle which included Boyd defending in the centres.
Without Milford, Boyd played fullback against the Sharks and impressed with arguably his best display of the season but Seibold again isn't tempted to abandon his long-term plan of playing the ex-Queensland and Test representative in the halves.
"I'm not playing games there - I named him in the number six," Seibold said.
"I just think Darbs is just a really good fit. He steadies the ship a lot for us there."

...seriously.....Boyd had a decent game at the number 1 last week...

we have serous issues with our halves right now...

I just think this is pride before the fall.....have to see how it goes....those Kiwi wingers and centres are monsters...how does Milf handle them breaking into the backfield..??

It wouldn't surprise me if he and Boyd swap positions at half time

...oh...I should add I'm not casting aspersions on our Lord and saviour Turps...!!!

Self flagulation imminent...

If he doesn’t take a knee when they get into the backfield we will already be better off. Boyd knows he had to perform or probably be dropped last match and he was ok .

No...
Surely there is a bigger game at play here.

Boyd handled those line breaks well hey

I almost cried from laughter when I read about how without Boyd's 1on1 tackling prowess at the back, we are doomed. My main worry is milf getting the numbers wrong when calling the defensive numbers left and right. He will get it back but he's been out of the position for 5 years

That's definitely lacking

This is a backward step.....

MILF is more suited at fullback. With MILFS defensive liabilities, he doesn't have to make as many tackles at fullback and can conserve his energy for attack - his greatest strength is when he runs with the footy.

And that’s where 5 years of trying to make him a half screwed us over in golden point the other night. When that break was made Milford was already doing too many sums in his head for the next play when he should have just run with what was in front of him. Hopefully with actual halves coming back from injury he’ll flourish at fullback.

Milford at 1 is the best case scenario, his running game is as good as ever and he barely gets to use it as a 6, he is still our strongest kicker but doesn't have the best decision making.

Also take the field goal duties away from him, that was an embarrassing display against the warriors.

I've always thought he was a fullback, but we were kinda forced to use him as a 5/8th because of Boyd and just a general lack of halves at the time.

I don't think his development has been anywhere near as good as we were all expecting. To be honest, in his best season in 2015, he still seemed to play more like a modern fullback than a modern half. Since then the Broncos have been trying to turn him into something he's clearly not.

He has not hit a drop kick flush in 4 years. Time to put it away for good I say

Unfortunately i have written this year off, so any good games/wins are a bonus and i am glad seibs is at least trying something. It may work, it may not.

If milf is at the back next year, i hope in pre-season he works with a fullback specialist, and our halves work hard with a specialist halves coach and kicking coach to alleviate him of those duties.

I think the club really need to look at investing into specialist coaches. I thought early this season i heard parker, prince and hodges had been working with the group but am not sure if this has been ongoing.

`I still the basic coaching of how to defend as a team needs to be addressed first.

As soon as the ref blows a penalty against us, I'm thinking "here we go, are we going to be able to defend this".

I'm almost convinced Isaako will never be a FB but he's no good as a winger either. I'd love to see him play centre inside Farnworth. I think that combination has huge potential.
