It might be a ploy by Bellamy and the Storm to cause infighting between Bennett and the Broncos. They have never gotten over losing the GF in 06 to us and have a win at all costs mindset against us. Think about it. Bellamy always privately going to re-sign with the Storm but puts on the charade of having talks with Brisbane played out in the media with the goal of Bennett and the Broncos falling out and leaving us looking for a new coach. Half the battle is won when they face us in future games if we end up with another Henjak. They can flog us by 40 then even without Smith and Slater

I have no doubt the leak originated from the Storm to cause a rift between Bennett and the Broncos board. I'll leave the rest of the post to tinfoil hat specialists...

You really think Wayne insisted on the talks with Bellamy?

I think there has been some clever wording in all of this, to save some face. Did Bennett actually say he said the broncos should talk to Craig Bellamy? What I heard him say was he went to the board to talk about the future direction of the club. That could mean anything. He could have gone and asked for a contract extension.

Some of his comments seem contradictory to the portrayal of the events. Why would he tell the Broncos to talk to Bellamy if he seems intent on still coaching in to the foreseeable future. None of his comments seemed to suggest he wanted to give up coaching come the end of his current contract.

It’s an impressive conspiracy theory and it has all the right ingredients. But even when Smith or Bellamy or Green were rumoured to be on their way here, the Broncos, and Bennett in particular, never took the bait. They’re not fools.

There was enough to make this chapter seem legitimate enough to potentially destroy the Broncos/Bennett relationship if it all goes bad. If this all a ruse, then the Storm have done a fantastic job.

Something a few of us were discussing earlier is that Wayne won’t be fired. He will choose to walk, even if it is before his contract is up. After what happened with Griffin he can’t put up a stink after Hook showed how to deal with it with such class and dignity, as it will leave a lasting impression on his legacy if it ends on bad terms. That’s not a slight on his pride or ego, I just think Wayne is decent enough and self-aware enough to know the high road to take.

He wanted to be in the loop. Sounds like he feels what they talked about would involve him. The sad thing is Wayne still has it, but for how long. This is a do or die business. The club does not want the hard work Wayne has put in to slide back again. The only way for that not to happen is for them to touch base with good coaches that are off contract. Look who has been sacked in the last 12 months. No contact with any of them. Bellyache is a must talk with when he is available. White and the club are doing what they must for the club.

What i find interesting is 1910 and smokin joe both said there wasn't going to be anything in it. But there seems to be alot of commotion , dos'nt make sense if it's just a smokescreen.

Why it’s time for Wayne Bennett to move on from the Brisbane Broncos

THE time has come for Wayne Bennett to move on from the Broncos.
Three weeks ago, Brisbane held an old boys’ lunch and a lot of the conversation among the ex-players was around the direction in which the club is headed.
And many are not happy.
I know we as former players don’t have a say in what happens with the Broncos, but when you help build something, you get passionate about it.
That’s why I believe the move to bring in Craig Bellamy is the right one.
It shows Brisbane are on the front foot and ready to make the right decision. They just need to be careful about how they do it.

Has the game passed Bennett by?
Bennett has realised the writing is on the wall and his determination to stay in the job next season could also be Brisbane’s undoing.
He is forcing the club’s hand and is outsmarting them at the moment, because if they want Bellamy, he will either have to sit out of the game for a year or the Broncos will have to give Bennett a massive payout.
Bennett is putting Brisbane under the pump and is trying to force Bellamy to re-sign with Melbourne.
He doesn’t really want Bellamy coaching there.
But, in my opinion, it’s what has to happen.
There will be people who ask “how dare the Broncos treat Wayne like this”.

Bellamy has surpassed Bennett as the game’s greatest coach.
However, I had reservations when he came back in 2015. Everyone has a use-by date, no matter how great you are.
If Michael Jackson was still alive, he wouldn’t still be doing the moonwalk when he’s 68.
But I think that even with Bennett in charge, Brisbane have lost their shine.
Bennett used to have that pulling power but the fact is, he just doesn’t have it anymore.
The club also don’t have a star player to attract other players, so what they need is a star coach.
Craig Bellamy is that person.
If my sons were ever going to have an NRL career, I would send them straight to Bellamy, just so they could learn what it’s like to be an NRL player from him.
Bennett is trying to force Bellamy to either re-sign with the Storm or have a year off, but 12 months out of the game could be really dangerous.
I hope Bellamy comes north, it’s just about whether he wants the challenge.
I can’t see a premiership window with Brisbane at the moment and that is what he would have to change.

Bellamy built his dynasty on players the Broncos rejected.
Melbourne’s premiership window is more like an open plan living space.
They’re always around the fight, always contesting, and Bellamy created that.
Cameron Smith walked past Brisbane, Cooper Cronk walked past Brisbane, Billy Slater walked past Brisbane.
They were all playing in Queensland.
No one wanted them except for Bellamy.
What would Brisbane do with a Cameron Munster right now?
The players Brisbane rejected became Melbourne’s grand final side.
But even if Bellamy doesn’t come to Brisbane, they have to pull the trigger on somebody else.
Too much has happened now to keep Bennett around.

Darius Boyd says he won’t follow Wayne Bennett if he is forced out of the club and replaced by Craig Bellamy

BRONCOS captain Darius Boyd says he doesn’t have a ‘Bennett clause’ that will allow him to leave the club if Wayne Bennett is replaced by Craig Bellamy.
If Bennett was moved on Boyd ruled out following his coach for a fourth time.
“Yeah mate I’m almost done anyway,” Boyd said when asked if he would stay at the Broncos even if Bennett moved on.
“I love the Broncos and I’ll definitely be staying.”
Boyd has only ever known one coach in the NRL, with Bennett giving him his debut at the Broncos back in 2006.
Boyd followed Bennett to the Dragons for three seasons from 2009 to 2011 and to the Knights for three seasons from 2012 before returning to the Broncos with his coach in 2015.
However Boyd denied having a clause in his contract that would allow him to follow Bennett if he left the Broncos for a second time.
“No I don’t,” Boyd said of a potential Bennett clause.

“Brisbane has always been my favourite club and the club I always followed, since I was six years old.
“I never wanted to leave in the first place, but an opportunity presented itself for a number of reasons to go with Wayne and I’m very grateful for the experience I’ve had to be with Wayne all these years.

“I hope he doesn’t go because it would be sad to part ways with him.”
However if Bennett was moved on Boyd believes he would have no problem playing under a new coach, be it Bellamy or anyone else.
“Of course I would, I’ve been coached by a lot of other coaches in the rep arena, but obviously not at club level,” Boyd said.
“I’ve been lucky enough to work with Kevvie Wallters, Ricky Stuart and Mal Meninga and I’ve really enjoyed my time under those guys.”
Bellamy is off contract at the end of this season, while Bennett has one more year to run on his current contract.
Bellamy has a three year offer on the table from the Storm and has said he will either take that or leave Melbourne at the end of the season.
If Bennett chooses to finish his current deal, Bellamy would have to sit out next season to take up a deal with the Broncos in 2020.
Boyd admits he was shocked to learn that Bennett might be leaving the Broncos.
“It has surprised me a little bit, but in saying that, it is a business,” Boyd said.
“Whatever way you look at it, if that is the end for Wayne then obviously the club are looking for a succession plan and if not, then Wayne has plenty more years to coach depending on how it all works out.”
The Brisbane fullback didn’t think the talk surrounding his future was having a negative effect on Bennett.
“Wayne doesn’t change, he has been the same since I have known him,” Boyd said.
“The Broncos are a famous club with a proud history and whenever there are media reports there will be a lot of back and forth, but Wayne keeps to himself quietly and goes about his business the way he always does.”

The funniest part out of all this is the journalists somehow acting like they have got a win over him, finally the big scalp of bennett....

He has outlasted every single media beat up and conspiracy thrown his way by them for more years then most of them have lived, but they got him in the end! Apparently Kevvie turned down the Titans job because he was convinced that he would get the Broncos job once Bennett retires.

Whether he was actually told that, I'm not sure. But even then, things change all the time in the real world. Bellamy also wasn't contemplating coming home to Brisbane at the time.

The Broncos obviously want the best person for the job and to me that is Bellamy so it's just unlucky for Kevvie.

Paul Kent on NRL 360 has said that Wayne Bennett had every intention to continue coaching in 2020 and is getting the tap on the shoulder by the Broncos.

To me, it kind of sounds like he is twisting what's happened to suit his own agenda because he did always claim that Bennett was under pressure.

But maybe it is actually true.
