Broncos Premiership or Origin Win

People seem to be forgetting that in 2006 pretty much every other team just fell apart in the back end of the season along with Lockyer/hodges/berrigan firing on all cylinders.

Personally I think blaming the origin series for losing matches 10 weeks later is an absolute cop out. It has no effect on you at that stage.

That's not what players think. Origin is so overhyped it has a huge mental impact as well as physical.

I'd definitely trade the last 6 origin wins for 1 broncos premiership

conversely I'd trade a broncos premiership for an origin series win. Different strokes and all that.

I just fail to see how a player playing origin, especially if they don't back up the weekend after, can affect how they play even 4 weeks later, let alone 10+. I don't really care what players say publicly, it's all just typical PR speak, much like every post match conference or quote about fellow players. I'm sure some players use it as an excuse since everyone's constantly telling them how much origin affected them.

Re: Sack Griffin

I don't think you understand the lack of confidence when the team is in a rut.

Re: Sack Griffin

Couldn't have said it better myself

Lol

I've been a broncos fan as long as I can remember, which goes back to around 1990 or so - longer than 99% of the people on this forum I'd say. I want them to win the premiership every year. I just value state of origin victories more. Doesn't make me a "part time fan".

Re: Sack Griffin

I attended the Broncos first GF ....I was 34 at the time !!!!!......there hasn't been a day when i wasn't a fan.....

I sure some of the more emotional and abusive posters on this forum will be lumping me in the same bracket as the "part-time" status that was thrown at you.

I was there for the first game in 1988 at Lang Park and in that time my support and loyalty has never wavered.......

I would say from some of the responses coming out of here in the last few days that 99% of posters here don't remember or weren't even born during the QLD V NSW rivalry pre State of Origin. The humiliation and arrogance QLD suffered at the hands of NSW smashing us and for the better part using QLD born players to do it.

Well I for one remember it and remember it well.

State of Origin was/is a fantastic concept. It was a great leveller. It showed once and for all just which state was the supreme RL state.

I want Brisbane to win just as much as I want QLD to win and as far as I'm concerned if a win against NSW comes at the cost of supplying the QLD team with Broncos players, thus damaging Brisbane's premiership chances, then it's a price that I've been ready to pay since the Brisbane Broncos were born. I've been satisfied with Brisbane's record in that time. I'm not naive enough to think that a single club side can win the premiership every year.

I'm also not so immature to think less of anybody who feels differently to me as long as they don't abuse me for feeling the way I do about my own preferences.

Yeah... But it does

I respect your opinion and there's no way I would ever deny you the right the feel that way.
I disagree with the statement in bold, first because one is not a guarantee of the other, second because I value the Broncos more than Qld, although I defend Qld as ferociously as anyone else, especially against NSW'kers.
More importantly, and I cannot stress enough that this isn't meant as an insult, it is the statement in bold that makes you less loyal to the Broncos than most of us.

I'd like and want the best of both worlds though. Why can't a Qld team full of Broncos players win SOO without damaging the Broncos interests in winning a premiership? Just because SOO on Wednesdays has become a tradition and some people as well as Nine like it that way, doesn't mean it should stay that way!

Re: Sack Griffin

Yeah... But it does

how? how exactly does it make me a "part time fan"?

that is complete BS. "loyalty" is a stupid word to use.

"loyalty" gets players like steve michaels a starting spot for years.
"loyalty" gets players like wallace resigned at 2x their market value.
"loyalty" sees making the top 8 and then being bundled out 50-0 in the first round viewed as an accomplishment and proof that the team is going well since they made the finals.

you can be loyal without being blind and/or stupid. im "loyal" to the broncos in the fact that i will ALWAYS support them, no matter what. always have, always will. but im not "loyal" to them in the way that everything the broncos do is the best and the right thing to do, and that ill overlook things simply because theyre the broncos. many people on this forum, yourself included and actually you seem to be one of the worst for it, are "loyal" to that fault.

loyalty is good. blind loyalty is not.

putting origin on a higher level of appreciation than the regular season doesnt make someone a "part time fan" or "not loyal". state of origin is the pinnacle of the game, its about more than just football, and many people savour origin victories more than club ones. doesnt make them "not a true fan".

Re: Sack Griffin

Agree with AP, the idea that he's only a part time fan because he enjoys origin is pretty stupid, it's like saying you're only a part time Qld/Nsw/Australia fan.

Re: Sack Griffin

I am a part-time QLD fan. I am with them 100% for 3 games of the year and the rest of the time the like of Cameron Smith, Billy Slater and Jonathon Thurston can suck a fat one. Broncos Premiership is much more important to me as I invest a lot more into them. Whether it be going to games, merchandise and just going through the wins and loses with them.

Maybe you should read more carefully. Nowhere have I said that Fourex or anyone else for that matter isn't loyal or a true Broncos fan. I said he is LESS loyal than most people who DO NOT put SOO ahead of the Broncos interests.
As to the stupidity of the word loyalty, maybe you should look up in the dictionary what it means, and then come back to me about whether it is being used appropriately...

Re: Sack Griffin

AP is rrrrr rrrrr rrrrrrii ..... not wrong. He is not a part time fan just has a different view on rep footy.

F@ck this weekends been hard, cheering for the Roosters and supporting AP. :D

how is he less loyal? he supports the broncos, always has and by the sounds of it always will.

Re: Sack Griffin

I apologize to fourex, You can do what you like really and I feel like a dick forcing my opinions on you.

with that said, for me, I would take qld losing 100-0 for the rest of my life and having all previous state of origin series victories wiped from memory, for a Broncos premiership.

Re: Sack Griffin

Origin is like the Olympics, its hugely important to me when it comes around, however it takes a toll on the teams that contribute most to it.
