Co-Captains Extend Deals - Broncos

THE NRMA Insurance Broncos have received a major boost ahead of Friday’s Anzac Day blockbuster against the Rabbitohs with co-captains Corey Parker and Justin Hodges agreeing to two-year contract extensions.

The two have inked new deals that will keep them at the Broncos until at the end of the 2016 season.

The two 31-year-old captains have had glittering careers at the Broncos, including going on to represent their State and country.

Parker played his first game as a Bronco in 2001, and has now amassed an amazing 284 NRL games in his fifteenth-straight season for the club.

He sits behind only the great Darren Lockyer (355) on the list of NRL games played in a Broncos’ jersey.

Hodges debuted even earlier, as a 17-year-old in the year 2000.

He has now played 160 games for the Broncos, and 217 NRL games all told including his stint at the Roosters between 2002-05.

Broncos chief executive Paul White said the news was a great boost for the club as a whole.

“These deals offer a commitment to these two who have shown they want to play out their careers in Broncos jerseys,” said White.

“This offers some certainty for the players, but also for our members and supporters who now know our captains will finish their days as rugby league players here in our colours.

“These two are great examples of how players can develop not only on the field but as people in general when they become part of the Broncos’ club.”

Here's the list of the other Broncos whom are off-contract at the end of this season, which would you like to see re-signed?

Ajuma Adams, Dale Copley, Cameron Cullen, Mitchell Dodds, Jordan Drew, Jamal Fakir, Jake Granville, Jon Green, David Hala, Ben Hannant, Lachlan Maranta, Stewart Mills, Francis Molo, Kodi Nikorima, Joe Ofahengaue, Duncan Paia'Aua, Jarrod Wallace

Must hang onto Copley, Nikorima and Maranta.
Prefer to hang on to Hannant, Hala, Drew and Granville.

I think Copley, Drew, Hala, Maranta, Molo, Nikorima, Ofahengaue, Paia'Aua, Wallace are all musts.

IMO Copley, Dodds, Granville, Hala, Hannant, Maranta, Molo, Nikorima, Ofahengaue. The bolded are musts.

Re: Parker and Hodges re-sign till 2016

Drew, Wallace, Nikorima, Hala, Hannant, Maranta, Paia'uau, Molo, Granville, Copley and Ofahengaue

Re: Parker and Hodges re-sign till 2016

I guess I differ from most people, I don't see a major benefit in re-signing Hannant or Granville, Hannant is past his prime, and most importantly, I don't think he compliments McGuire well (Our prop of the future), ideally I'd want a tall impact prop (Someone who looks like Martin Kennedy except runs harder...) to go alongside McGuire, a short, stocky, workhorse.

And Granville.. well, we have McCullough, and he's going to be our Hooker for the next decade, I guess I wouldn't be against re-signing Granville as depth, as long as it's dirt cheap.

Re: Parker and Hodges re-sign till 2016

Great news for the club
Should see both of them finish their careers at the broncos. @ some of the idiots who linked Parker to Penrith

Of that list of players to be re-signed, Copley & Nikorama are the only must. The others are playing for a contact this year and they need to have it known to them. Maybe they will lift up their socks. Looks like Wallace already has with his performance on the weekend

hannant has improved the last two weeks and in my opinion he needs to keep that up if we are to re-sign him.

i really like jarrod wallace and think he has a good future.

the other obvious ones are copley and nikorima as others have already said.

would also like to keep at least two of hala/molo/ofahengaue, as long as they perform or show they are worth it.

from what I can tell paia'aua has some good wraps too, but i've never seen him play.

Paia'aua is showing very good signs in ISC, definitely a must. The Nikorima brothers should also be resigned under the U20's cap.

As far as FG goes: Copley, Hannant, J. Wallace and Dodds are no brainers imo, Maranta on this year's base definitely deserves a contract, Hala needs to prove he can be more than one destructive run per game, while Molo and Ofahengaue need to keep showing progress.

I went and changed the title to reflect the good news but since there seems to be so demand to discuss potential re-signings all I can do is abide. :takdir:

First off, good news for the club. Real stoked with the Parker signing but must admit I have a bit of trepidation around the Hodges signing. I just wonder whether or not those injuries will take their toll in the back end of his career and think it'd be a shame to see him stay on too long.

I don't think we'd have a lot of trouble trying to hang onto any of those players. Copley is certainly a must, but I'm unsure on Hannant, needs to step it up to justify his price tag.

Preferably I'd like to hang onto all of them (especially Fakir, how could Brisbane possibly exist without a second grade French Bradford Bull? :P) but if there was an issue the only other priorities I'd sign up would be...

Jordan Drew, Francis Molo, Duncan Paia'Aua, Joe Ofahengaue & Jai Arrow (if the rumours are true)

The rest I have no objections to keeping since with the exception of Hannant, none of them are on serious coin.

I'd only sign Kodi to another deal if it sweetened things up with Jayden.

Not a fan of the 2 years for Hodges due to his age and injury history but I am hoping he isn't on the big $ anymore.

Very happy with both signings

Good to see the two old men re-sign -- not that worried about it being a two year deal for both of them. With the money we had been holding back for Smith or DCE and missing out on both of them I imagine they will both be on heavily front-ended contracts, Something we could possibly do with a couple of the other players if they wanted to talk contract exensions - Glenn, Gillet, McCullough and McGuire.

Of the guys off contract this year, think the broncos should be concentrating on keeping/building a strong front-row contingent. Dodds, Wallace, Molo, Ofahengue should all come at the right price. Hannant if he is willing to take a downgrade in his contract.

Granville and Hala I think will get decent offers from other clubs, so it will be a question of if they are willing to be Bench/fringe players at the broncos or if they want to go somewhere to get decent minutes.

Cullen, Paia'Aua and K. Nikorima - I don't know, Nikorima should be re-signed if he is still eligible for the u20s and havent seen enough of Paia'Aua and Cullen to make a call between them but we shouldn't need both on the books with Taylor, Strasser, Hunt, Milford and Barba.

I'd keep Maranta and lose Mills particularly if we are going to hold on to Hoffman or sign K Hunt.

You have three caps to get guys under, you don't need to cut anyone from that list if you don't want to.

Losing Granville would be a disaster. I love watching him play. A real attacking player. Fingers crossed he ends up staying.

As for the others, I don't know about Hannant. In theory he is an excellent signing but his form this year leaves me indifferent to if he stays or goes.
